Looking for a relaxed early dinner, we found the Sol Bistro to be perfect. A delicious menu - I had courgette, Haloumi, carrot and herb cakes with chilli jam and a lovely salad, but I chose some perfectly cooked green vegetables to go with it. There was a great wine list, with a range of wines also available by the... More

Food is stunningly good, try the haloumi, great! Service was ok, a little brusque! Wine was good as well.

We screeched in just before the kitchen closed. The place has a good wine list. The food is comfort food but not too heavy - exactly what we were looking for. I had some tasty fried halloumi cakes and salad. My companion had lamb and loved it. It's friendly with a good vibe. Service is efficient. Prices very reasonable. Just... More

we ate there one evening recently with friends of ours and had a pleasant evening. the food was good and the service was friendly and efficient. valuewise fair enough too. If I seem a little less than enthusiastic it's only because overall my wife and I thought it was perhaps a little bland, but in fairness we like food that... More

Had a wonderful Good Friday dinner here, recommended by our gracious host at Lawcus Farm Guesthouse. Being Good Friday, choices where to eat were limited, so a little bit of a drive from Stoneyford to Thomastown brought us here. A had a wonderful steak, and the wife chicken, followed by a wonderful dessert. Unfortunately, beer and wine were not available... More

Dear Steven D, Thank you for your kind review, much appreciated. The Good Friday prohibition law states that "it shall not be lawful for any person to sell or expose for sale any intoxicating liquor". We apologise for exposing you to the tease of bottles of beer and wine visible through a glass fridge door. They should have been draped... More

We had two lovely meals on a Saturday and Sunday evening. Lovely tasty meals, freshly cooked, the portion size was just the job for us - not the enormous portion size you get in some places. The restaurant is open from 5.30 and you can have two courses for 23 euros if you eat early (the restaurant is also open... More

We went for dinner at Sol Bistro based on a recommendation from our hotel. The bistro is right on the Main Street of Thomastown and is very popular. Reservations seemed to be necessary as we got the last table when we stopped to reserve at 4pm. The restaurant is quite small, pleasant enough decor and the staff were most friendly.... More

Description
Sol Bistro in Thomastown, like its sister restaurant in Kilkenny City, offers fabulously fresh local food served with a Mediterranean twist. Recommended by The McKennas Guide and Georgina Campbell's Ireland Guide. Sol Bistro is located in the centre of Thomastown on Low Street, just up from the Post office and between O'Hara's and Eddie Murphy's.
