While on holiday in the area we decided to have our first family meal out at the New Inn (our baby is 6 months old so born at the beginning of lockdown). The pub was set out well, staff friendly and attentive. The food was bought out promptly after ordering and didn't disappoint. The menu pricing was reasonable and you didn't feel short changed. Would visit again if in the area.

This is the first time back after 3 years because of lockdown etc.
We were meeting up with my daughter her partner and his parents for a meal.
We were warmly welcomed and showed to our table while we waited for the others to arrive. Lovely tasteful decore drinks serves promptly.
Really good extensive menu with plenty of choice and nice to see some dishes hag a small option though you wouldn't have known it from the size of the portions.
My wife and I had the small haddock and chips with mushy peas and a side of Cesar salad (ÂŁ4 bargain !!) My son had half a chicken and daughter, partner and his father had two had sizzling duck and one had chicken really large portions and his mother had the large haddock.
No one would go hungry here !!
Deserts didn't disappoint exceptional and good value.
Staff were outstanding, very attentive, the value for money and quality of food made it a memorable day.
For the seven of including drinks it was less than ÂŁ150.

Staying very close by, we booked the New Inn for a large family group in advance. The staff were very accommodating when we called by the day before to change our tables from restaurant to beer garden. Obviously a reduced menu as expected but still good choices for adults and children alike. The meals were all really well presented and our group of thirteen were happy, but if we were to criticise anything, it would be that the cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding deserts did not live up to expectations. The waffles were excellent and all children were more than happy with the ice cream. Staff were really friendly and efficient, toilets immaculate and the route to and from them well thought out in these strange times.

Rang late on Thursday after going to our usual haunt only to find it closed due to the pingdemic.
The young lady who answered, said there were no tables available, I asked if there was something a little later and she helpfully obliged.
The starter of Thai mussels was strange the mussels themselves being served in a homemade charcoal bun. Not sure that the charcoal wasn't from being overcooked?
My wife's risotto resembled rice pudding.
The burgers were the star flavoured and cooked well. However, they were served in the ubiquitous charcoal bun, pappy and dull it should be consigned to the bin!
The chips, crisp but tasteless, the salad cheese and relish substandard.
If we hadn't had such a trying day I would have complained, loudly!
Just not worth the hassle
Executive chef, go back to college.

I had the Sunday Lunch and my partner had the Steak Burger, both where amazing probably the best food I've ever had but the service really was something to be desired.
I'd booked a table for two as it was for my birthday meal. It was the first time we'd gone here, travelling from Shrewsbury. It looked beautiful and upon arrival I thought we'd found a regular gem of a place we'd visit but I won't be going back which is a shame.
We where the only one's seated in a middle section of the restraunt which is disconnected from the bar area and dining area but we seemed to just be forgotten about after our mains where served. I went to the bar when I first arrived as I'd never been and the bartender (a young chap with glasses) seated us. I found him quite abrupt and rude, couldn't force a smile but I thought he might of just been busy.
The same chap took our drinks, again we where smiling and trying to make general conversation but it was like talking to a robot. A lady came over and took our mains food order, she was very nice, the food was quick to come out and an older chap bought the food out who was also incredibly nice.
Unfortunatley we didn't see those staff again, we where looking forward to ordering a pudding and by now our drinks where gone but no staff checked on us or came to take any more orders. After 30 minutes of waiting after we'd finished our mains we decided we just wanted to go, where I was forced to go back to the bar, said excuse me to the glasses man again who completely ignored me and my partner and asked to pay.
He was incredibly rude, no thank you after we'd paid, no smile or anything of the sort almost like we where a burden. I won't be going back, such a shame.

Our table was half against the bar and half in a fireplace, this didn't inspire me with confidence. My wife was then brought a bottle of water even though she'd asked for a glass of tap water. I get it that some restaurants don't want to give tap water but tell customers that.
After ordering drinks we were left for 20 minutes before our food order was taken. The restaurant was very busy and there were only 2 people waiting on so it's little wonder we were left for so long.
After ordering our food it took less than 10 minutes for both dishes to appear. Of course, this didn't bode well. My wife's fish was grey and the chips appeared to be 'warm ups'. Apologies if they weren't, they just weren't very appetising. We had the New Inn recommended by the owner of the B&B we were staying at and this was a disappointing end to our first night in the area.

Although we are relatively local we haven’t visited this lovely pub until recently.
So pleased we were able to book online and saw that COVID precautions had been put in place. Arriving we came through the back door through a gorgeous pagoda which I can only imagine is lovely in the summer during the day.
We were seated far enough away from other diners and given the menus. Although the menu looked like standard fare we were pleasantly surprised with dinner. I had the smoked salmon roulade and the bacon pork chop with pickled pineapple and a quails egg for main. Both were very tasty. They were also very accommodating as I asked for less chips and instead a little salad - which was also delicious.
Service was friendly and efficient. I think we’ll definitely be back mainly because it wasn’t crowded (they are following the guidelines correctly)and the food was good.
Very happy and look forward to our next visit.

Lovely cosy and warm atmosphere, friendly staff, coping very well with the current COVID restrictions.
Food is very good quality 'pub' food. As a frequent visitor to high end restaurants, I can say the residents of Baschurch are incredibly fortunate to have this place on their doorstep. I have seen some of the negative reviews reference 'small' portions - well, the New Inn goes for quality rather than quantity. The latter is more the norm for standard pub-grub, the New Inn is hitting a slightly higher standard but remains reasonably priced.
Wife is veggie, good selection for her.
Perfect in every way really.

Visited for the first time last night. Hot so we sat outside. Nice decked area which had clearly been decorated recently. The host showed us to our table and kindly offered cushions, thoughtful and appreciated. We didn't have starters but weresorely tempted, but instead went straight to mains and ordered a duck skillet and beef skillet. Both delicious and prompty served. The beef was very tender and tasty, and both were served with salad rice and breads. We opted for a creme brulee and Eton mess for dessert. Again good size portions, which sometimes is not the case with creme brulee. Very reasonable prices and good service and attention to detail. Would definitely recommend and hope to be back again soon.

Rubbish experience of our first and last visit to the New Inn in Baschurch. We have eaten out at many restaurants and never felt the need to give such a negative review before now:
1. We were directed to our table which wasn’t set out. Had a few napkins and incomplete cutlery just randomly placed down.
2. A lady asked to take our drinks order but we hadn’t even been given any drink or food menus.
3. We ordered some nibbles, one of which was pigs in blankets with cranberry mayo to start. We were served honey and mustard chipolatas which were nice but not what was listed on the menu. We pointed this out to the waitress and she didn’t realise that it was different from the menu offering.
4. The mains then arrived. The garlic/chilli prawn skillet was unbelievably bland and no sauce or dip for the pitta bread so dry as well. Pie was over cooked as were the chips. Filling was just meat with gravy, nothing else. No real flavour there either. Kids had battered halloumi which was a little greasy. Only nice thing on the mains was the bit of dressed salad.
5. We spoke to a member of staff regarding the food who said he would speak to the kitchen. We thought maybe they were having an off day or overly busy but the waiter said all was fine and that no one else had complained about it. By this time, we just wanted to leave so sat with our coats on trying to track somebody down to get the bill. They did quite rightly discount our bill but they didn’t really seem to want to address the issues.
A couple of things that made it feel worse was that the reservation was for my husband’s birthday dinner (which I mentioned on the booking form) which turned out to be a huge disappointment.
Also, really surprised to read that the executive chef (as listed on the website) who oversees the kitchens is a previous Masterchef quarter finalist! Not even close to any kind of masterchef standard and not a patch on any of the amazing food from the many restaurants in Shrewsbury.

On a beautiful Friday evening in June we decided to dine outside in the glorious Grecian style garden area of The New Inn and it didn’t disappoint! The tables were large and spacious, the chair coverings were comfortable and if we wanted respite from the sun, our table had a wonderfully large parasol to shade us.
The front of house staff were busy making sure all customers had drinks, clearing empty glasses and chatting to the friendly locals. They created a really lovely atmosphere for a birthday dinner for my partner.
Now for the food, I mean WOW!
Firstly the value for money was extraordinary. My scallop starter was £9/£9.50 if I recall and I couldn’t believe it when the dish came out. The scallops were absolutely gigantic and cooked to absolute perfection. The curried parsnip purée married with the sweet scallops, micro coriander and pomegranate incredibly, a great dish for a sunny day.
The sirloin steak was equally as huge and absolutely delicious, you can tell that the chef uses quality ingredients to produce his dishes. All accompaniments to the steak were scrummy. I enjoyed it that much I unfortunately didn’t have room for dessert but they all sounded amazing.
Thank you very much to The New Inn team, your skill has made my partners birthday weekend one to remember!

First visit as on holiday in the area. Booked a table online after reading reviews. We both had starters and mains, both rests were brilliant and piping hot. I had the Cajun chicken skillet for main, which was amazing and clearly very popular (6 out of 8 people in the dining area we were had the skillets)
Overall a very good experience, everything felt very comfortable and clean with plenty of room between table.
Definitely recommend

We have been to the new inn three more times since my last review .
hospitality, decor, fine food, good banter with the staff if it had a category in the Olympics they would get gold as they are consistent.
The tables are well spaced out no noise from other tables which is a big plus good mix,
Food as ever superb deserts excellent not run of the mill.
Meat pie excellent proper pie with sides and base no puff pastry top covering a ie mix.
Had this last visit scallops with chicken wings, celeriac mouse and hazelnuts.
Outstanding!! Although it is a starter it filled me up.
Explained to the waiter I had the appetite of a gerbil he replied that explains the love of the hazelnuts!! Great banter!!
Staff were exceptional!1
We will be going monthly now,

We are regulars at The New Inn and have always had good food and service. Last Saturday, however, we were disappointed with the food. We are not fans of the new menu; this of course could be down to personal preferences, but as a group of four, we struggled to find something we really wanted to order. We all opted for the whitebait and calamari starter, but were disappointed with the heavy batter and bitter taste. The mains were OK, but not as good as usual and the bagel with the chicken burger was like concrete and impossible to cut! The other disappointment was that the only fish option was fish and chips – nothing even on the specials menu. It would have been nice to have a monkfish, salmon or hake option which did not come in batter. We would also really love to see your fabulous chicken kyiv back on the menu – that was so good and popular – not sure why it has disappeared?! As usual, the service was great and the atmosphere good, just hope this is a blip and the menu is reviewed soon as we would love to keep coming back.

This place seems to have changed hands and gone down hill. The menu no longer imaginative pub restaurant. Starters of mixed bread and oil and whitebait and squid were nice. My main of steak burger was ruined by coming in a giant tiger bread roll - the same as appeared as part of the bread selection from the starter. OMG couldn’t eat two. Didn’t the staff think to let us know? Partners sizzling duck was nice. Creme brûlée was an odd texture and the accompanying biscuit tasteless. Simply put it was ok in parts but not a patch on previous experiences.
