Fri 24 Mar 2017, x2, lunch The venue is great, the food was good, let down my quirky service/staff - I don't expect to have staff 'yelling' across the room or down the corridor to each other, whilst I'm sitting chatting over a nice meal... clearly, they're trying to be a "Gastro Pub" or better, yet the staff seem to... We visited this pub for lunch en route from Gatwick airport. We do not know the area well and were looking for somewhere to eat lunch at the end of a holiday abroad. We passed this en route to our car parking. We were not disappointed. The staff were very welcoming. The pub is very old with lots of nooks... More

Really lovely oldie worldie pub with lots of low beams & quirky corners. Nicely presented inside but not over "done". I ordered a beef roast, which was beautifully presented, with rare beef. The portion was a good size. Plenty of veg and a lovely side of cauliflower cheese! Horseradish servers in individual pots. My husband did not have the roast... More

Went here a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed with the interior. It's a really old quirky building ( as it's name would suggest) and the interior of the pub/restaurant is beautifully decorated. Staff were very pleasant, especially the guy behind the bar who was very chatty and friendly. However am sorry to say that the food was... More

A very nice, old pub. The age is reflected in the low beams and ceilings everywhere which have been tactically padded to make sure you dont brain yourself. That apart its a great place. We were here on a business function, but worth a visit if you are staying overnight at Gatwick for an early flight, if you fancy venturing... More

Took my son and girlfriend for his birthday lunch. Nice and friendly staff without being in you face. Although we waited over half an hour for our starters we enjoyed the pleasant ambience of the old house. The food was nice and hot, fresh and well presented ,although a little more expensive than other places this is better than the average... More

We visited here for a spontaneous lunch and were really impressed! As we live in the area I don't know why we have not visited more often. The staff were really friendly and chatty and the pub is just beautiful. I had the most amazing Chicken, Leek and Mushroom suet pie with veg that was cooked perfectly. My husband had... More

Party of twenty had 40th wedding anniversary celebration here before the happy couple took off on 2nd honeymoon from Gatwick. Excellent old-world rendez-vous with good food + friendly and efficient service. Recommended for such an occasion.

We booked here with a group of very good old friends. It is a great location, real oldie worldie pub with lovely helpful staff. BUT the only food without garlic was the fish and chips. To people in our group who were allergic to garlic this was a disastrous lunch and we will never visit this restaurant again
