A bit pricy but fully worth it! Great food, very beautiful setting, cosy atmosphere, nice friendly service. What else can you wish for?

What a disappointment, my son arranged my 60th birthday lunch here. We were a party of abt 15 people pre-booked. To start we were not offered drinks at all throughout the meal but had to call someone out to take orders. Food took ages to...come. My meal not pre booked as a surprise, I didn’t get asked what I wanted to eat and only when everyone else’s meal arrived did we realise. The lamb was not edible too chewy and fatty and everyone left it. It was cold outside and it took ages to get enough heaters brought to table. This was booked and not a walk in so you could have prepared for our arrival better. My last complaint is that my mother has written directly to this place and has not had a reply to her email!More

Booked online. Lovely greeting on arrival and seated in the conservatory. Wonderful and cheerful service from start to finish. Delicious starters with warm mackerel beetroot and horseradish, smoked salmon and a cucumber relish and a serving of flatbreads and black garlic hummus! Main course was...the fish pie and the shin beef and oxtail pie with a side of mash and kale. Good portion sizes, pies served individually in cast iron dishes. Hot with plenty of filling. Lovely bottle of Gavi di Gavi to wash it all down! A very relaxed lunch with great food, wine and service. Thank you!More

We pre-booked for lunch today 20 Dec, having looked at their Festive Menu, so were extremely disappointed to be told by the waitress that this had to be pre ordered and that only the usual Sunday roast menu was available!! This was crazy as there...was no mention of this on the online Festive Menu at all, or indeed anywhere. The alternatives were good, but that's not the point. Schoolboy error and totally unnecessary.More

Frankly I’m not really bothered about Scott and Alex who left years ago, quite why they need mentioning every 5 mins when this is about peoples experiences now is beyond me. I’m local I’ve had 5 meals there, every one has been fantastic, anyone who...thinks any of the restaurants around here deliver a 5 star experience every single Saturday night is misguided. However the warm welcome, ambience, food and atmosphere is excellent . We tried some of the new home made burgers which were fantastic, the Skate wing is also a stand out dish to me. I thought the outdoor area though a little chilly was lovely , and the gas heaters took the edge away. Staff were very friendly and worked hard throughout. Will definitely be visiting again over the next few weeks.More

Poor service with inaccurate details about when food was prepared. Basis of salad was a huge amount of leaves out of a bag and every other element very disappointing. Very slow and restaurant only half full.

This pub has certainly gone downhill since Alex and Scott left. Visited with a friend on a Saturday night, waited nearly 10 mins for someone to take our drinks order and when we received them they were wrong. Main courses took a while to arrive...also. Young staff serving us who were not experienced. Very limited menu with no specials. Food was ok but not as good as it used to be. I won’t be rushing back here for a meal!More

We haven’t been here since it was refurbished and wasn’t sure what to expect. The pub is really lovely inside and was very busy for a Sunday lunchtime. A nice lady met us at the door and we were seated promptly. 2 roast chicken, pork...loin and 3 puddings later all we can say is YUM! Bottomless veg and roast potatoes (which were tasty), great service and atmosphere at a price that won’t break the bank. Will definitely be back for breakfast!More

For many years the Brickmakers has been our favourite Gastropub for a decent meal. Of course like everyone else, the last 2 years has meant almost cessation of dinning out. So we booked for my wife's birthday supper. First disappointment was the menu, very limited...fish choice and my heart sank when I saw that the headline main was a burger. Asked if there were any specials, and none, the waitress just pointed at a few items on the menu as "special". Also the menu in the restaurant is very different to the one on the website. We were sat in the conservatory area, the weather outside was cold, which it was inside as well. The radiators were cold while the acres of glass radiated the remaining inside heat to the universe outside. My wife kept her coat on, my thick jumper was just about enough. We told staff the radiators were cold, nothing happened. No staff asked if we were comfortable. Nibbles of pork scratchings tasteless and hazardous to teeth. Starter of cured salmon very nice. Main of a shared fish pie for two. It was lukewarm and the few bits of white fish tasteless. We didn't finish it. It was served with rainbow chard which was just grey/brown cabbage to taste. The side of vichy carrots was the only enjoyable element. Desert of creme brulee/custard and chocolate ganache acceptable. We left to have coffee at home and warm up by the fire. The Brickmakers used to be top class, with daily specials to die for, now it is just basic pub grub. Won't be going back until a lot changes.More
