We were a table of twelve, to celebrate my grand daughters birthday. The venue is beautiful and the staff were obliging but rather amateur. My son had the (very expensive) rib eye steak, which he said was very gristly and not very nice. My sister...had the fillet steak (also very expensive) and asked for medium rare. It was very nearly raw and she left over half of it. ‘Sorry, I’ll tell the chef’ doesn’t cut it. The restaurant was very empty, just the garden area and us on the balcony. They could have done better.More

Very impressive ,with beautiful decor and very smartly dressed staff. A good choice on the menu .Sadly when the shepherds pie arrived it was very disappointing .I would have expected the size if I had ordered a child's portion . Given that to make it...anywhere near acceptable for a decent size lunch one then had to order sides it was very poor value for money .I was expecting "posh nosh" but does that mean being ripped off?. The apple tart was really good and I enjoyed it very much . It was such a shame because we had waited such a long time to treat ourselves to somewhere like the Ivy but we won't bother again .What ever the cost, one does expect value . Another thing I found off putting was the lack of parking .Given the cost of the meal I didn't really appreciate parking in the town car park .More

A fantastic restaurant with great service and staff, but the food was seriously lacking I could cook better at home so could most people these days! Overrated and overpriced! Very disappointed!

Nice restaurant but please stop penny pinching. Visited the Ivy Brassiere in Cobham on Saturday evening. It was our first visit and we had a nice meal. The staff were excellent. When we were shown to our table we were surprised to find that the...knives and forks were the wrong way round on both settings. Not a big problem at all but just surprising given the attention to detail in other areas. We ordered soup and prawn cocktail. I thought that both would be accompanied by a couple of slices of bead and butter. They weren’t so I asked for some bread and got a large round loaf but no butter - I didn’t ask. Looking at the bill at the end of the meal I had been charged £4.25 for the loaf, most of which went to waste. What about a couple of slices of bread and butter which could be included in the cost of the starter if required? I checked if the mains came with any vegetables. Of course I wasn’t surprised that they weren’t. Once again, a couple of basics like a few small vine tomatoes with the steak would have been nice. Accompanying source was an extra £2.95. The amount doesn’t bother me but again, this is just plain penny pinching. I’m not sure if your cost model is intended to set you apart from other restaurants and make you appear more exclusive? If it has been designed this way it doesn’t work. We have paid more at other restaurants which I don’t mind at all but it’s obvious that you are not aligned to industry best practice and this let’s you down even though the food is good and your staff are excellent.More

Booked a table in advance online for 10am on our way for a weekend away. Pulled of the motorway into cobham arrived at the ivy to be told they do not open until 11.30! Terrible. Opening times show that breakfast is served from 10am need...to sort out their website or restaurant.More

It took 25 mins to order our first drinks. The waiter verged on rude, was flippant and didn't seem to be able to smile. I'm a Ceoliac (not out of choice but under doctors orders) and twice I've been to the Ivy Cobham recently and...twice its been made quiet clear they do not understand what a Ceoliac can and cannot eat. The effects of eating gluten are severe long term for me but if I had a nut allergy then they would be immediate, however it doesn't seem the Ivy takes allergies very seriously or even has a menu clearly stating dietary requirements The first time at a pre booked GF (Ceoliac) afternoon tea I gave them the benefit of the doubt when they served me RYE bread sandwiches which would make me ill if I ate! The second time i requested a gluten free menu and was told rather off handily by the waiter that there isn't one but most dishes can be altered. After having my started removed by the manager because again I pointed out it contained gluten they then changed their mind on my 'altered' main dish being gluten free also. I re ordered steak which was tough and bland! I was told the chips are not GF but 'mI pleased I didn't order them as they are tasteless 'oven chips' according to my friends who had them and all left them! My husband order the cod which could of swam in the oil on the plate, my friend ordered the tempura prawns and said there was hardly any prawn inside the batter! Then when the bill came up we were charged for my starter which was removed because it wasn't gluten free. After pointing it out it was taken off the meal. If you have an ALLERGY then be AWARE of what the Ivy Cobham are serving you but overall it was a poor show.More

Celebration afternoon tea. The semi outdoor conservatory area was lovely, the waiter was excellent but the afternoon tea was pretty dire, the only good things were the scones, jam and cream.

It looks like this ivy has taken a beating on reviews lately. However, my wife likes it and it’s close by. After dropping my wife off I had to find somewhere to park which took a time. On arrival my wife was seated and had...already engaged with the waitress. She explained her allergy to chilli but didn’t get much response as to why was in the dishes. This became a problem last time we ate here as the duck salad has chilli in it but it’s not on shown on the menu. We stayed safe and had mushrooms, cod and fish cake. The food came in quick time and the cod was plentiful. The chips tasted ok to me but apparently they are ‘oven chips’? All in all this was an adequate meal and the staff were pleasant. Downside is walking back in the rain to get to your car; Ok if you have a taxi or you are being dropped off as the car park is tiny. Knowing an owner of an eating establishment we are well aware of current staffing issues in the industry.More
