The roast beef was freshly cooked and very tender - not your usual dried out Sunday roast served in other establishments! For dessert I had a Mr Whippy, and it certainly had the wow factor - basically a rhubarb ice cream with slithers of rhubarb...More

From the excellent service to the lovely surrounding. This place is a gem. The main course of Brisket Beef was sublime. I am not a fan of Coleslaw however this version has changed my mind. A weakness could be said to be in the puddings....More

Latest of several visits here. A starter of Asparagus with Pork Scratching Poached Egg was clever and good as were the Spare Ribs. Mains of Wickham Goat with Kaffir Lime was enjoyed by several diners but I wish I had ordered Barbary Duck with Morcilla...More

What a great experience. We have recently got bored with pubs selling "half-baked" Sunday Roasts at inflated prices. This was a real pleasure. Everything was great including the temperature of the wine. We would recommend to anyone.

The ale may not be warm but the food is beyond Orwell's imaging... We had the Sunday Lunch and it was as good as other reviews promised

Hello, I can't tell from the reviews if it is a pub that also features food at times, or a "sit-down" dining room. In other words, is it a place you can have only a drink? I dont want to walk a couple of miles from where I am staying and not be able, or comfortable, taking a break for a glass of wine or two. Thanks!

to be honest I can't remember seeing one (it was dark). Great pub for a casual drink and eats is at The Royal Oak, just north of Chilgrove. Great atmosphere, real country pub down a winding lane!
