The place is odd it's stuck in the 70's the location is fantastic, service polite, food average at lunchtime. It needs upgrading and a bit more practical furniture. We were told no dogs in the restaurant which is steeped in the past, yet we sat next to a table with a dog under it, odd no one said anything, yet... More

The food is great and the service friendly and quick. We were a little surprised to be asked to pay a 10% surcharge for eating dinner in the restaurant when we were actually resident in the inn but I guess its to cover overheads of some sort? It was made clear it wasn't a tip. I could understand it more... More

Last ate here a few years ago and it was very predictable and pubby. Due to awful weather we decided to pop in here just after the main lunch menu had finished but sandwiches and light meals were available mid afternoon. Everyone in our group found the food fresh and delicious. I had bacon and Brie and this came with... More

A really friendly pub with fantastic food. No better place to be especially when it is cold and wet outside. A real fire, home cooked food (try the soup with a portion of chips) and some interesting local beers.

We booked a table in advance, but no need it was very quite on a wet, cold January evening. Food was good, had fish and chips - nicely light battered fish and excellent chips, much better than the Wainwright down the road. Only issue was them running out of the beer we started drinking, although I can understand this out... More

The most delicious beef bourgignon I've eaten. I've had meals here before when on walking holidays and enjoyed them each time, but wish I could cook BB like this. Very pleasant staff and good service, too. Highly recommended.

Visited for a 2nd time while we were in the area, sight seeing with friends. Last time warm sunny day , sat outside. This time cold , damp day sat inside by a roaring fire. It is a dog friendly pub, HOWEVER, we followed a couple who had allowed their wet dog to sit on the sofa.....leaving a smelly damp... More

Local welcoming pub with great food, beer and an open fire. We returned to Elterwater over the new year period and again were delighted with our visits to the Brittania. We ate in 4 of the 7 nights were staying in the area. We also visited most days after our walks for a couple of cheeky Neddy Boggle Bitters which... More
