It was a fixed price menu (drinks extra) which was good value for what we got: a choice of half a dozen each starters, main course and desert. We had a crianza Rioja recommended by the place, which was very good. The food was healthy,...made with fresh ingredients, and tasty. Fast and attentive service.More

Even seasoned travellers will have difficulty in experiencing something as bad as this! Don't be fooled by Juanjo's (the owner) initial pleasantries, he is a scandalous individual. We decided to eat at the restaurant having discovered that it was the only one open in the...village. It ended up being a complete calamity. There were a total of 10 diners in the restaurant and two waitresses to attend to everyone, however we still had to wait 15 minutes to be brought a menu and to be asked what we would like to drink. Upon ordering a bottle of crianza and a cold bottle of water we received a bottle of already uncorked young wine and warm water. After making the waitress aware that it was not what we ordered she promptly returned with the aforementioned Juanjo, who in no uncertain terms and very admonishingly told us the wine was in fact a crianza/reserva wine, despite the bottle being clearly labelled as 'Cosecha', meaning young or harvest wine in Spanish. Anybody who knows anything about Rioja wine is aware of the very clear labelling system that all bottles display. His complete ignorance of this fact and his aggressive insistence left us both gobsmacked and shocked by his confrontational manner. As such, we decided to leave immediately without having dinner but only after paying €12 for an inferior bottle of wine to the one that we had ordered. Not to mention the fact that by this time over 30 minutes had elapsed and our order hadn't even yet been taken by the clueless, untrained staff, who clearly had little or no experience of working in a restaurant. This was also after Juanjo openly ridiculed them in front of all the diners for not knowing how to perform the most basic tasks, including uncorking and pouring us our glasses of wine. I have lived in this region for over 10 years and have never experienced anything like this either here or anywhere else. It beggars belief that a restauranteur in La Rioja can be so ignorant of the most prized and valued commodity of this winemaking region. Juanjo is an embarrassment to La Rioja and a disgrace to the profession. Avoid at all costs.More
