Part of Civil war ale trail. Great range of real ales and offered a taster before choosing. Like a maze with little rooms all over the building. Would have been perfect with an open fire on though. Food looked good, but didn't eat. Smashing pub definitely return.

Went for a cycling club get together out of lycra for a change, food was brilliant. Was about 15 of us, all got hot food, no complaints. Waitress Sade was brilliant - always happy and looks after you very well. Cant do enough. Favourite place in Newark

Visited here with friends to eat. And wow what a great little find. Original beams, stone walls. Log burners up and downstairs to sit..drinks/ food reasonably priced. And food was so tasty and the menu is big. Would definitely recommend this little gem. Xx

Good ale, excellent porkbelly and black pudding, a little surprised at the presentation but still very tasty. The mustard mash could have been warmer and a little more mustardy for my taste. My partner found the ballotine of chicken fricasse had an odd taste, possibly the taleggio. Shame there were no desserts.

Management response:

Thank you for you review. Glad everything was good, apologies for the mashed potato of which we will work on. The taleggio in the chicken dish is quite strong which maybe the taste. Dessert menus should have been offered so we are sorry for that. Thank you for the rating! Hope you visit us again soon. Kind regards The Prince... More

We were recommended this pub by friends as a place to eat in the evening and we were not disappointed. Initially built in the 15th century. There are several rooms spread over two floors of this historic building and the food is both traditional and 'quirky' modern. Try the Indian Shepherd's Pie as I did.....it was wonderful.

Most people know the Rupert by general criteria is the best pub in Newark despite a good variety for atmosphere and beer. It's always pleasant to eat there as the food has not disappointed - last time I had a fish stew it was excellent and previous had a great pizza. Beer always enjoy a Rev. James!

This ancient pub has interesting and quirky rooms and an excellent menu at reasonable prices. They always have an interesting selection of beers and you can try small samples before deciding which one to have. We had the "pie of the week" - lamb shank - which was delicious and all we could eat at £12.95 plus a pint of... More
