My family and I went on Christmas. Now be prepared, it's rustic and totally authentic-- don't expect fancy dining! But down to earth genuine Costa Rican flavor is what we wanted, it's exactly what we are interested in experiencing! Owners couldn't have been kinder and more gracious. The medium plate was perfect for us. The meat was delicious-- so tender and perfection! Roasted to fall off the bone! The lake view, the authentic fire and ambience truly immerses you in the culture. We had a delightful time!

FANTASTIC! Family of four ate for Christmas eve and couldn’t have been more delightful! Totally authentic. No frills, casual but sooo cool. The bbq is delicious—meat so tender and well seasoned—falls off the bone. The husband and wife owners/run the restaurant are lovely! So much fun —what a treat! Great food for reasonable price too! Very fulfilling!

We were driving late at night, maybe 9pm, towards La Fortuna. We stumbled on this little gem. Honestly you must stop if travelling past.
We have one veggy in the group, and he menu was basic, but we were hungry. We ordered. The taquila was incredible, and my baileys was a good size. Two of us had fish, chips, coleslaw, rice, and beans. One had steak, chips, coleslaw, rice, and beans. All of the meals were a full plate of food. Home made chilli sauce and sourcrout was surved, both were out of this world good.
The food was cooked on a fire inside the restaurant. I have never seen a place with so much character, it was beautiful. We sadly didn't see the view, but I can imagine it has lake views. There is an upstairs balcony, and decor is a homage to the ranch the restaurant was built on. The building was built from rocks from the river, and cemented together by hand.
Please visit, I can't recommend more.

Our family stopped at this quirky roadside bar/restaurant and were pleasantly surprised with their delicious food. Barbecued beef and chicken were especially tasty, and served with traditional Costa Rica sides. Very generous portions. We sat on stools overlooking the road, with our first scenic view of Lago Arenal wetlands in the distance. Highly recommend.

This place is a hidden gem! Highly recommend stopping. It was slammed when we drove by and so glad we stopped. Our favorites were the beans (pretty sure the best beans I've ever had) with the bbq chicken, and riblets. Great staff and a local vibe. Felt like eating a true local meal in a tree house... and we bought their hot sauce on the way out.

Equus seems to be literally built into the side of a mountain. They have a huge wood-fired oven where they roast all their meat. The focus here is meat - so it isn't the best choice for vegetarians. The bar is fun, and the crowd varies with the season. The decor is rustic. Should you go there, be sure to ask to see the upstairs disco.

On our way from La Fortuna to Monteverde we stopped at this hidden gem.
We were a bit early for lunch so the first to arrive. We shared a portion of pork ribs and plantains. Suburb quality and definitely recommended. No place in Monteverde or La Fortuna will come near the authenticity of this place.

Delicious food, super friendly owner and house cat, chi-chi. Chicken was so juicy and tender! Definitely give this place a try, they even have a beautiful view of lake arenal!

Amazing little spot as you arrive over the hill into Arenal Lake area. Rustic, 30 + years in the business and great food and the staff were lovely. Feels like your off the off beat road where sometimes feels to comercial.

What a place! Great and not that expensive. Everything was delicious (except the steak which was crazy tough.) Would have eaten there more if went earlier in our trip.

This place is very unique and taking a walk back to see the discoteca is a must! Food is amazing and very well priced. A very happy place to spend some time!

Equus is Tico owned. Wood-burning oven is fascinating. We love to order the large combo with ribs and chicken only. We find te beef and pork steaks a bit tough. And we known that Tico beef IS different from American beef. Pickled onions and tortillas come with entrees. Everything else is a la carte. But all good. So much meat in the combo--feeds 4 easily. Ribs are small pieces--very tasty. Cash only.
