Every inner-city local has their little black book of places to eat for cheap and cheerful sushi places. I have one in Bondi, another in the CBD and, for that late lunch after a Bridge run or a swim in nearby Cook & Phillip, there's Sushi on Stanley. This place is so tiny it fits less than 30 diners! But... More

I recently went to get a takeaway lunch. It was approximately 3:10pm when I got there. They close at 3:30pm. So while I waited for my order, more people started to come in trying to order and one of the staff members (not the one who served me) advised the customers that it was takeaway only which was fair enough... This is not a high brow Japanese restaurant with exotic sushi. It has generous and fresh sushi staples presented well. If you love Japanese and are hungry, then this is probably the best in town. They only take cash and it is crowded so get there early for lunch and dinner. Service is good!

Ordered the Sashimi & Sushi plate (large $31). Reasonable value with good amount of items served. Good quality fish, served quickly. Note cash only / no cards.

This cafe is quite small but looks fairly clean and efficient although when I was asking if they have a seat for one person - the lady said that it will be a very long wait so I might be best to take away. So I did but the takeaway was taking ages and so when I was waiting outside... More

Small space with excellent sushi. Great for takeaway, but you might have to wait a bit for a table. The have teriyaki and dumplings for non-sushi lovers as well.

This tiny restaurants has a huge lunchtime turnover and serves freshly made food, much of it to take away. Inexpensive, pre-prepared sushi and sashimi, edamame, seaweed salad etc can be bought from the counter at the back. Or place an order for a cooked meal and wait outside. A good range of dishes on the menu and on specials signs... More

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
