My new favourite place to eat. Lovely atmosphere, fantastic food and the staff very attentive. The food was fresh and tasty, loved the decor. We did book a table luckily, the place filled up very quickly. Food came out quite quickly which was good. We will be back. we all loved it.

Had lunch with a friend and was firstly very surprised how our shoes were sticking to the dirty floor. Next, our waiter thought cracking jokes at us and saying things like "I'll bring you a wine glass and straw" was funny. I asked for 2 pieces of bread and he said "no". Humour, no, rudeness, quite possibly. Then came our... More

I'll confess that this is one of my favourite places to eat when I'm on my own in Sydney. A bright, fresh menu is offered to the solo diner and the wine list suits the style and ambience perfectly. Service is good, particularly if you sit either at the bar, in the Parisian fashion, or nearby. A good view of... More

Overpriced, underwhelming and a poor shadow of what Ananas Restaurant used to be. Had dinner with three work colleagues, expecting something similar to the old Ananas Restaurant in the Rocks area (now closed). Decor is a tired old and dirty disaster. Food was of a lower quality/quantity than expected. For example, I ordered Steak au Poivre, which arrived as a... More

The food was nice, average prices. Not sure about the drinks as we had water. This new restaurant is in the Barangaroo Precinct and whole area is lovely, all new and vibrant. On the water and will soon have uninterrupted views.

I was so looking forward to enjoying the a dozen oysters, especially since they are $1 on Wednesday and I was not let down. I tried 6 Pacific and 6 of another. Impressive presentation and great taste. I also ordered the Onion Soup with a side of Green Asparagus, accompanied by a Spritz de Proven cocktail. Thank you for Gabrielle... More

Fabulous early evening before a show at the Opera House a very short walk away. See had reservation and glad we did. Filled up fast. Food was very French. Service was better than French. Good wine selection and Australian recommendation. Lots of French wines. Wait staff and manager were very attentive and helpful. I seldom give out a high score!😊

Such a random find, they make the best french onion soup I've ever tried! Honestly cannot remember the other dishes I had, the soup blew me away. I would go back just to have another soup. Atmosphere is great, dimmed lighting is always a winner. With a separate bar/restaurant area, it's great to have a few drinks before moving to... More

My friends and I first visited Ananas way back in 2013 (we were originally at another restaurant but left after being ignored for 45 minutes) and fell in love with it instantly. Since then that same group of friends and I have been coming back every couple of months and we're still not sick of it. Delicious food, excellent wine... More

Having visited Ananas a couple of times at its previous location in the Rocks, my partner & I thought it would be good to give this place a go. Though not as ambient as the previous venue (though a refurb is apparently happening soon), the food was still very good. I'm not sure if it was our stroke of luck... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
