It was ANZAC day and heading to Chinatown after the march and saw that La Guillotine was open. In we went. Great place for mussels and steak. Great entree of chicken liver and pork pate. The mussels were the absolute best I have ever eaten. Exceptionally plump and the cream based sauce was beautifully balanced. Glad we dropped in!

I've been coming to La Guillotine now, every few years when I am in Sydney for about the last 2 decades and I love the place. Most recently my partner and I went there in early March 2017 for a quiet dinner for two. Both entree's (escargot and garlic prawn), both mains (Tournedos Rossini and fillet de boeuf) and the... La Guillotine is a lovely, old fashioned retreat in a city full of noisy and brash restaurants. Great service, great food, reasonable prices, this French bistro is all classic dishes. The food is not as good as Bistro Pappilon, and the atmosphere is very different. If you want to have a business meeting or a good yarn with your lunch... More

Kind of went here by mistake looking for a different French restaurant. This was not as good. There was nothing really bad about it but nothing was really great either. I had lamb cutlets. They were cooked nicely. The wine by the glass was good. Hard to pinpoint the issue but lacked flair, perhaps authenticity...

After reading a few reviews I was sceptical about eating here but my partner had already booked a table. It was quiet for a Friday evening with us only being the 3rd table in the whole place, however this meant that the friendly waitresses gave us plenty of attention and we were never left waiting for anything. We had snails,... More

I’ve been meaning to visit this restaurant for twenty-something years and stumbled on it again yesterday at lunch. Apart from the pictures of French stage and screen stars, there’s nothing particularly French about the décor. And most of those stars couldn’t be recognised by anyone under 40 anyway. Interesting crowd dine there. We sat near a group of rugby ‘stars’... More

I happened to come across La Guillotine while walking back to my hotel and spontaneously stopped in. The staff were very friendly and the service was good. I had steak with peppercorn sauce. It was cooked perfectly. They paired it well with a red wine. Staff seemed to be a little chaotic as the restaurant began filling up. Not sure... More

Excellent main courses, very good desserts, pleasing ambience and service. Inappropriate background music. The most enjoyable dinner we had in our four-day visit to Sydney.
