This is a kind of place that is difficult to describe. Perhaps it is typical of what you would find in the main tourist location. The service was simply ordinary. We got what we asked for but no more, no personality nor interest in helping with the menu nor the order. When it comes to food it was unimpressive, rather... More

We love this place and go there quite often even though we live in Dural, 40 kms out of the city! The food is always good, fast and efficient service but the view is quintessential Sydney. Where else can you eat great Chinese food a few minutes from the opera house, looking out over the harbour with the bridge right... More

We dined at The East before seeing Billy Bragg & Joe Henry at the Opera House. There was a giant cruise ship docked across the quay and a real buzz around town. My online booking worked a treat - table outside as requested and they understood we needed to be done in time for a show. The location is mesmerising,... More

Very good cooking and good location. The food was well cooked. Things like the spring rolls were crisp and not oily, likewise the Singapore noodles were excellent as were the vegetables. The service was prompt. Highly recommended for such a popular tourist spot

This restaurant may serve reasonable food but its staff are very rude, arrogant and don't mind raising their voice and shouting at customers when things on the bill are queried. If you want a chines version of Fawlty Towers this is it! My visit to this place (and I am a lover of chinese food) was a very bad experience... More

We chose The East for dinner prior to attending Tosca at the Sydney Opera House. It's right along the walkway by the harbor just prior to the opera house. The service was perfect and the food was just the way we like it. There is also a very good wine list.

As we'd been to this restaurant previously and enjoyed the experience we thought we would go again . Unfortunately it was a mistake . Was it the fact that it was Easter Saturday or that a large cruise ship was anchored at Circular Quay that members of the staff were indifferent and rather off-handish? Both our main meals were not... More

We have eaten here before and it was brilliant, which made our recent visit on 15th April particularly disappointing. The steamed trout was not trout but admittedly well-cooked but bland fish. My sze chuan squid morphed into salt and pepper squid, deep fried and tasteless. The entree was delivered after the meal and only after asking for it. The steamed... More

Very convenient location before seeing something at the Opera House - great view and reasonably priced considering you're virtually right on the Quay. Came out at around $60- $70 a head incl. wine for 7 shared dishes. It's better than average but not 'very good', hence 3 stars only.

Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
