Excellent food & service, for entree we shared the satay chicken kebabs, nice and moist/tender with yummy sauce, not some some dry ones we seem to get served up.
For main we had their signature dish Butter Chicken and it was excellent, as was the garlic nann.
We also had the massaman, the beef was beautiful & tender but the potatoes were over cooked and sort of mashed through the sauce, was still good but not on par with the butter chicken.
Will definitely go back next time we are in Darwin & get the Butter Chicken but will prob try something other than the massaman.
Also, the wine was a bit on the expensive side for a bottle @ $50 a bottle, but this seems to be the norm for Darwin though, we ended up getting a beer & cocktail.

We have eaten here many times but our last visit, staff appeared unorganised ..... we had to ask for the food menu. The carpet near our table had large white crumbs and when we went to pay, there was a gathering of people some waiting to be seated with others waiting to pay. Two staff behind the counter appeared to debate where a couple were to be seated.
The lamb korma was average and the garlic naan a little burnt. Maybe this was just an off night because our previous experiences the food has been delicious!

The vegetarian dishes here are nice, but charging $6 extra for plain rice and not being able to serve plain lassi is very much below expectations. The water you get as tap water is unfiltered. The waiters always look the other way. It takes forever until you get their attention. Someone needs to give the management a lesson in "atmosphere": no music, no candlelight or anything else that makes you feel you want to stay longer than necessary.

We booked at Hanuman for dinner because of the very good reputation it has been holding in Darwin for many years. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed.
When booking we were not made aware that there is an inside and an outside area to choose from, and were booked for inside. It was very busy, brightly lit and cold inside and we asked if we could get a table outside, but the outside area was apparently fully booked. We were led to a table for two next to a service/ table water area with staff constantly rushing past. Tables are really close together and being so busy we had to shout to hold a conversation. The whole atmosphere was far from relaxing.
We ordered two cocktails which took over 20 mins to arrive and neither of them seemed to have much alcohol in them, if any.
The menu options were very rich and while I am not an expert, it seemed to me more like Indian cuisine than Thai, even though they advertise themselves as a Thai restaurant. We ordered two curries which were quite nice, but didn't have any vegetables in them at all. They took almost an hour to arrive.
The staff was friendly and professional, however, we were served by about six different people which was a little impersonal.
Overall, we spent what we consider a fair amount of money for a pretty average experience. There are many choices for outstanding Asian cuisine available in Darwin, most of which are more affordable and provide a nicer experience. I wouldn't go back to Hanuman.

Used to be a frequent visitor at Hanuman and have also been to the Alice Springs venue but had not been for 12 months or so, so decided to take my new partner and a friend visiting from interstate there for a meal and a few drinks.
Service was absolutely horrendous. In my experience service here has never been quiet up to scratch, but this latest visit was next level. Front of house staff were all either extremely new or very poorly supervised. After talking the place up all day to my guests we were extremely let down. Literally having to wave staff down from across the restaurant more than once to try and get service, and on one occasion actually having to get up and chase a staff member down on foot who I am certain saw me but continued to turn around and powerwalk in the opposite direction. Needless to say I was extremely embarrassed and let down by the whole experience. We waited about 15 to 20 minutes for our last round of drinks and ended up just cancelling them and asking for the bill, not sure if they were ever going to arrive.
Luckily the food has not changed a bit and is still absolutely amazing, the only thing that salvaged the night and earned Hanuman 2 out of 5 stars.
Unfortunately looking at other reviews, my experience seems to be common and a growing trend. My most recent visit was a week night and the place was busy enough but nowhere near as busy as Hanuman often gets. I sincerely hope Management rectify the service issues so that the front of house service compliments the tremendous work the back of house staff do to consistently provide a quality product.
Atmosphere is usually great. Portions are huge and pricing is fair. All of this considered I am still extremely hesitant to return until service has been rectified.

Quality south-east Asian dining restaurant. Suits formal or casual dining for large groups or an intimate meal for two. My wife and I love this restaurant - we walked along the Esplanade for a meal out tonight. Excellent service with a choice of aircon or open air dining. We started with the Trumpet Mushrooms, a favourite, and our mains were Cashew Nut Chicken and a large Thai Crispy Whole Fish in a yummy hot sweet and sour sauce with a side of Coconut Rice. The fish was a let down tonight. We ate it all but the chef or service was off its game tonight. It wasn’t very hot when served and was dry from overcooking or having been left too long under lights waiting to be served. Very disappointing when in the past it was served piping hot, crispy outside and tender fall off the bone fish meat on the inside. Everything else was delicious, and as usual the table service was excellent.

After reading reviews sounded so good. However it proved to be over priced very average food and poor service. Entree of oysters was average.the nanya pork rolls arrived just warm and consisted of one roll cut into 4 pieces. The 3 main courses were very average. The Singapore chilli prawns were served (about 5 prawns) in a pink sauce with red, green and yellow capsicum little spice an expensive dish at $38, the butter chicken had large lumps of chicken in the sauce not bite size pieces. The third main a fish curry arrived at the table at least
ten to fifteen minutes after the first two mains had been served. Will not be returning to this restaurant.

We both had been looking forward to coming back to this restaurant as we have always loved the food. We decided to celebrate my partners birthday and we both have never been so disappointed. The food was lovely, but the service was so slow and non existent. We were seated rather quickly and given menu’s and after one minute of sitting down we were asked if we wanted to order and after telling the wait staff to give us a few minutes we never saw them again. Had to get up and ask if we could order and it just got worse. Never received both entree’s, received main meals then had to ask where our second entree was and again had to wait a long time for it to come. Wanted to order dessert but no one around and again had to get up and ask to order.
Decided to go back for a second time last night as we thought they may have been having a bad night, but the second time was even worse could not believe it. The staff were non responsive did not seem to care as we sat for over 20 minutes for the wait staff to take our order. The place was not that busy. We were given flat sparkling water twice which we sent back twice and waited so long for our cocktails to come and when they did eventually come both drinks were given to me instead of one each. And again waited for such a long time for our meals to come. We were about to leave after waiting 40minutes. We did not order anything else could not wait to leave. That’s it for us will NEVER come back. Won’t be visiting the Alice Springs restaurant either on our next part of our trip.
Sorry to say they have lost us.

I have been in aus for 2 years and nothing comes close to this place. Very similar to Indian food in England (finally!!)
Between 3 of us we shared 3 mains, 4 sides, 2 rice and had alcoholic drinks, the bill was cheaper than expected ($203)
The food was incredible, having a mix of Thai and Indian food which wasn’t too spicy.
Would highly recommend the beef vindaloo if you do like spicy!
Staff were lovely and very attentive, the restaurant itself was very big with indoor and outdoor seating :)

We have eaten here many times over the years and always had great food and service. This year of Covid-19 however has seen Hanumans standards slip. We ate there last night for the second time in a month. Earlier in the month the food was average and the service was poor at best. Last night the food was poor and the service was chronic. Staff were rude and surly. Waiter came to take our food order before menus had been given. Drink orders were brought incorrect and very slow. Dishes were brought that were not ordered and dishes that were ordered were not brought. Main dishes were served across about 20 minutes so the first to receive their dishes either ate cold food and waited for everyone to be served or ate and had finished by the time all mains had arrived. Staff did not seem to care and did not respond to polite requests for attention. Mr Shu it’s a shame to see your high standards slip. We love your restaurant. Please bring it back to where it was.

Hanumans has to be the best dining experience in Darwin , delighting diners with the most incredible, tasty, rich and memorable food. Regardless what one orders off the menu you will not be disappointed as the food is so delicious, however occasionally for the price the serving size is quite marginal .
Our biggest disappointment with our most recent dining experience is that we were charged for a number of alcoholic expensive beverages we did not order. Thankfully one of our guests picked up on the error questioning if anyone had a number of particular beverages. Just check your bill as this is the second time this has occurred.

The food was good. But that was all.
We booked dinner at Hanuman weeks in advance thinking it would be a special way to spend our last night in Darwin. I had heard great reports about it.
We arrived on time at 7:00 and were seated at a plastic table in the path of the queue of people coming in. The staff were abviously busy but it took three attempts to get a glass of water. We ardered a tasting plate of entrees on the understanding that we could order somthing else if it wasn’t enough. The music was too loud and the staff were rushing to ckear tables for walk ins who were being seated around us at better tables and getting their food before us. We waited for almost an hour for the two glasses of wine and food we had ordered. The food was tasty but nothing to rave about. It wasn’t quite eniugh but rather than wait another 50 minutes for another dish we cut our losses and left.
We had a better Asian dining experience at the little “hole in the wall” place near our hotel a couple of nights earlier.
We wont bother with Hanuman again given other choices available.

Lots of great dishes here.
The dine in experience feels rather impersonal. You can tell they are just churning through the numbers and the restaurant always seem busy. Waitstaff need better training to refrain from constantly interrupting eating customers to ask how things are. We don’t need that every 10 minutes from different staff members.
