Beautiful Sashimi and Aburi! The staff were so friendly. The Sake was chosen by our host and was a perfect match to our taste. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.

We visited for an early evening meal at the end of November. We picked up a bottle of wine from the bottle shop next door although my husband drank the Japanese beer as recommended by the owner, and said it was delicious! (Sorry we can't remember what it was called) Our food was amazing! We had three courses and in... More

I am an australian, I live in Japan and am in Australia on holidays. I meet some friends living in Port Douglas on their trip to Japan who visited my restaurant in Osaka. They took us to Zipangu as they go regularly and know the owners. I was honestly surprised and amazed by the true authentic taste of the Japanese... More

In the middle of nowhere jimmy an experienced master chef practises the art and craft of japanese food. Dont judge this book by its cover .in very simple surroundings the sashimi sushi are outstanding .unusually good .close your eyes .and your closer to kyoto then cairns.recommended

I came solo around 8 PM and was seated immediately. The atmosphere is straightforward and cozy and the staff really make you feel at home. I ordered the sashimi box dinner and a Kirin beer. After having lived in Japan and being accustomed to fresh sashimi and traditional Japanese fare, Zippangu has very authentic and fresh food. The owner was... More

I have Coeliac Disease and was treated to a gluten free banquet which was just so delicious. The others in my party enjoyed it too. I've learnt that you can't expect restaurants to cater for GF and it warmed my heart that Jimmy and Masae Zipagnu prepared special sauces and batters for me. I'll be back!

This is not a cheap takeaway lunch, but is rather authentic. It is small and located off the play, but if you are staying out of the main area or have a car (parking easy), it is good for lunch (have not tried for dinner takeaway).

We were completely wowed by this place. Other reviews have drawn attention to the place itself being fairly low key from all aesthetic appearances, however the food is on point. The sashimi was so fresh and flavoursome, clearly of a really high grade. The same can be said for all the other food we had, great quality produce made for... More
