I was really looking forward to dining here while on holidays and had read rave reviews. I pre booked to ensure I had a table as I heard they book out easily. I was pretty unimpressed to be honest. My waiter while nice and friendly,...had no idea about wines or flavours of the wine, didn’t know the menu very well, and my food took an hour to come to me. I also felt as a solo diner I didn’t get the same level of service as the couples around me. The restaurant was very squashy and dark. Food was very overpriced for what it is, portions pretty small and had strange combos of flavours, particularly my scallops. Got 5 very very tiny scallops for $25.50. Tassie scallops being smaller than other states I would have thought you’d get more. The scallops with that weird corn salsa thing completely overpowered the beautiful tasting scallops instead of them being the star.. I’m a foodie to my core, fine dine regularly wherever I go and In my home city and happy to pay money for good food, but I was very disappointed by my experience at this restaurant and would definitely not return or recommend to any of my friends visiting Hobart.More

Exceptional food. Steaks cooked brilliantly. The sides are to die for ….. truffle mash…. Unreal!! Will be back for sure.

Walked up to this restaurant and was very impressed with the service. Most importantly, the food was really good. I ordered the black angus dry aged scotch fillet and was cooked to perfection. I also ordered the truffle mash and it was tasty. Finished the...meal with the chocolate pudding with molten lava and was really impressed. Will definitely come back!More

We have been to this restaurant twice in the last couple of months and we haven't found anywhere that does better food. The food is to die for. The Red Lobster pate' and the steak with the stilton sauce is so good. The young staff...are wonderful however the older man who was waiting on the tables was so rude - he ruined the evening. We watched him take the efpos machine off the girls trying to use it to finish their customers and just pushed pass - not sure who or what he was but he needs to have better manners. We rated the younger staff not this guy.More

This was such a great night. The food was to die for and the salmon pate - I would love to be able to make it myself. The staff were great and so nice. I can't say how much we enjoyed the steaks which were...fantastic. Worth every $.More

Astor Grill is traditionally our first stop when in Hobart and never disappoints. There is something about sitting in that dining room with its crisp white table cloths and old skool elegant service that always feels inviting and not pretentious. Our cocktails, starter, main platter...and dessert were faultless. Appreciated the attentiveness and humour of our waiter. Already dreaming about the next visit.More

We chose this restaurant for a very special occasion, we were shown to our table which was crammed into a corner very close to people dining on the table next to us, we asked if we could be moved to a table for two on...the opposite side of restaurant and was told by our waiter that it was much easier for him if we sat there as he could explain the menu to both tables at once, so much for individual service, so for the rest of the night every time he attended the table next to us I had his arse in my face, and had to listen to everything the people next to us were saying, all the waiters were dressed nicely in black trousers and shirts, our waiter had faded grey ankle freezer jeans on with a washed out grey shirt that wasn’t even tucked in, we both had a glass of champagne and ordered our meals , started off with oysters and bread, for main course we ordered wagyu beef for two at $115. as well as a couple of side dishes, our plates did not even fit on the table, both our plates were hanging 1/3rd off the edge of the table so as soon as I went to have some beef my plate flipped over and my meal was in my lap on my napkin, I felt very embarrassed and heard the two people on the table next to us laugh, there was no way that the plates snd serving plate would fit on our table, we decided not to have any dessert which I was really looking forward too, my partner went to pay the bill and said to the cashier what had happened so he deducted the price of the champagne, the food was delicious but tables were way to small, and our main waiter was dressed as if he was working at some suburban fast food outlet, maybe this is the norm for Tasmanian fine dining but we were expecting something quite special and ended up leaving very disappointed , I would never go there again JohnMore

This restaurant is old style perfection. Food was excellent, service was friendly and very knowledgeable, love the atmosphere- nice to have classic white table cloths! Wine list is extensive. Could not fault it, we will be back.

We stumbled across this little gem while walking around around the streets of Hobart. We checked the menu and decided to have lunch there. We weren't disappointed. While not overly hungry (because we'd had doughnuts mid-morning) we shared every entree on the menu. The background...music was wonderful and while the decor is rather old world, this very unassuming hotel is definitely worth a visit.More

The food was great, was very hard to choose as there was a great menu and also extensive wine list. Our server Bradley was fantastic, was very professional and in tune with passing on knowledge and ensuring that we had a great experience.

The Astor Grill's web site says that they are closed on Sundays and public holidays, so I expect that means they will be closed on Christmas Day.
