Two of us went there after shopping in CBD. We had been there before many times but this was the first visit after several years. We ordered mock crab (scallops) and cho chung tong chicken (chilli chicken). Both dishes were good and the mock crab was as good as I remembered. Definitely going there again.

Same friends re visited this restaurant late Nov, as we enjoyed it very much the last time the previous month. Sadly, after the change of owners, not sure the same chefs were still working there, the quality of the cooking had gone down by a few notches. Our all time favorite Braised Leg of Pork with sweet Chinese dates was... More

Whilst in Melbourne, my wife and I one evening fancied a Chinese meal. We looked around the heart of China Town but Sungs was a recommendation in our hotel so we thought we would give it a try. We were a little dubious at first because the menu was not typical of what we are used to in England. However,... More

Sung's kitchen offers a different menu compared to your usual Cantonese restaurant. For those going for the first time I'd recommend to start with these following dishes: cold chicken salad, chili Antarctic crab (call beforehand to make sure they have Antarctic crab), wonton chicken soup (winter days), sweet and sour pine nut barramundi, Sung's special fried chicken, egg white with... Sung's kitchen certainly deserves all the god reviews. The food is always excellent. I have mostly only eaten here for lunch and only once for dinner. My favourites are the salted fish and chicken noodle and the double billies chicken soup. However all dishes I have tried are excellent. The minister chicken rib we had yesterday was very good. Ido... More

I have been to this restaurant many times and the quality of the food is consistently good. One of its signature dishes is chilli crabs with fresh noodles. Despite its name, the dish is not chilli pungent hot. The spiciness is so judiciously judged, any Aussies will find favour with the flavour! Not cheap at all but the crabs are... More

The food was lovely and the service warm and inviting. We had the chilli crab which was delicious but expensive, the smoked duck and some entrees. They did advise us when taking the order of the market price/pound of the crab. It was an experience but I probably wouldn't have the crab again at the price (my husband is a... More

We returned to Sung's Kitchen after an absence of 14 months to find nothing much had changed: the menu is extensive and generally excellent, the staff are professional and helpful and the ambience is just what you would expect in a fairly busy Chinese restaurant. A real bonus in this restaurant is the excellent wine list and a sommelier who... More

My family and I have been regular visitors to this gem of a Chinese restaurant in Franklin St Melbourne for years and every time we go we are reminded why we keep on going back. The food is consistently good and the service attentive, friendly but not over the top. If you are a fan of good quality Chinese food... More

We decided to try this Chinese restaurant which was located across the road from our accommodation at Discovery. We were promptly shown to our table and given the menu to choose from. My husband and I chose the chicken and corn soup followed by honey pork special and beef with soy and garlic accompanied by fried rice no prawns. Needless... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
