Cafe culture is really intact in Melbourne. One of the most popular cafe in CBD is definitely Hardware Societe which is located on Hardware Lane. Almost all popular foodbloggers in Asia have a review of it, and mostly are good ones. I'm quite curious to try whether they're that good. Although I'm not really keen on queuing for food, but... Wow..... just wow!! Pretty much the best brekky my wife and I have ever eaten. The comination of seafood with a French influence was something i was uncertain about but that was quickly fixed. The flavours were nothing short of spectacular. I was left completely satisfied and in ore of what i had just eaten. The coffee was first class... More

A French brunch to remember. I had the duck confit with eggs and it was superb. The coffee is great, the service is good and the food selection is amazing. What a great place. I'll definitely be back.

Omg what can I say. The best breakfast/brunch I've ever had!!!! We had to wait 40mins to even get in - the line was so long but so so worth it! The mocha is too die for and the baked eggs are delicious! We also loved how they had 3 kinds of jams and butter on every table free of... More

My Wife and I went on Sunday and joined the long queue outside, however only waited only 10 minutes as there was only 2 of us. The service was polite and prompt and the specials of the day was the duck and polenta at $25 and brioche rubarb/raspberry $18, we ordered both to share. The meal was enjoyable and sharing... More

Worth queuing up for - though as I was on my own, I didn't have to wait for long, they found me a single seat at the bar within about 5 minutes. I had the roasted (field) mushrooms with parsnip puree and poached eggs. They were perfectly cooked and seriously delicious. My coffee (and the follow up mocha) were great... More

Despite the 20min wait it was amazing - the food was totally sensational We are a funny breakfast eating couple who both loathe eggs so... More

While it's true that Melbournians have a fondness of lining up for things, there's usually a very good reason for doing so. Hardware Société was one such place. Walking into the cafe, the first observation was the number of people dining and lining up. After a while, a waitress ushered me to my seat - sharing a table with a... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
