The Quarter is located on the crowded Desgraves street, with another 10-15 similar restaurants and cafes, hard to distinguish what table belongs to which. We were looking for a late breakfast, but this seems very hard to get in Melbourne by noon, so we had to settle for an early lunch. After a 15 minutes wait because 'the kitchen was... More

Visited this lane way restaurant for dinner without very high expectations, we selected it because my husband was interested in trying the risotto on the 'Specials' board; as I'm gluten intolerant and not a lover of prawns I thought I'd try a risotto from the main menu. We were both really impressed with each of our dishes, my husband voted... More

During a visit to Melbourne my partner and I visited The Quarter three times. Friendly and fast service, a great choice on the menu (and happy to make meals vegetarian) And a good price ($50 for 2 Mainstream and drinks) brought us back for dinner and breakfast. Close to shops, attractions and transport, this restaurant on Degraves St is a... More

Delgraves Street is a unique foodie place in Melbourne lined with small alcove restaurants and cafes an... right up the middle - covered seating with table service. I approached one cafe thinking I'd get a latte and breakfast croissant but the server wanted me to sit practically on top of another diner.I asked if I could sit at another table... More

Admittedly saw The Quarter under poor circumstances as it was raining cats and dogs and the photos depicted an outdoor setting. Indoors was not appealing, somewhat cramped and lacking any vestige of charm. Food was better than adequate with the calamari appetizer being the highlight. Expected more

I ordered Eggs Benny. The eggs were cooked adequately but I was disappointed by the drop of hollandaise sauce on them! Coffee was ok. Half way through our visit it appeared that our waiter was "let go" right there in front of us! Then when we went to pay we were asked if we'd like to leave our waiter a... More

Cassidy – I went to The Quarter with a friend during our lunch break, and I ordered the Pork Belly main. The wait time for food was a little long but they did tell us that when we placed our orders. The serving of pork belly was the biggest I think I’ve ever had. It was two big pieces –... More

Took my two adult cousins here for a thankyou dinner. Good food and drink for decent prices (for melbourne). It helped a lot booking a booth indoors not being on the tables in the alley way which are cramped and noisy. It helped a lot that some wine was poured by mistake for another table and they brought the homeless... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
