Used to do the best burger at this end of the city and had good beers on tap. Unfortunately the redevelopment at the base of Rialto has closed this place off.

Had the absolute pleasure of dinning at Hare & Grace a few months back with two other industry professionals. Loved this venue and the service was absolutely 1st class. The highlight of our visit was the food, each course was a work of genius, matched perfectly with the recommended wine by the restaurant manager. Why this venue was only every... More

Met some business partners for lunch on Thurs at this amazing restaurant and it is sad that they are closing on 1 May as the building in which they are housed, the Rialto, will be going under refurbishment. Cant wait to hear if they will reopen somewhere else. We tried the wagyu beef burger, braised beef and traditional fish &... More

Below the shadow of the Rialto Fantastic food and service, certainly quite pricey but in line with a high level city restaurant. Tasting plates including Oysters for entree then mains across slow roasted lamb, fish n chips, wagu burger, salmon, steak. Good selection of desserts like brulee, cheese platter etc Good selection of wines, cocktails and a couple of mocktails... More

Lovely looking restaurant. The staffs know stuff! Good recommendations and the service level was excellent. The oysters are fresh. Calamari are of decent size so you enjoy the crunch and texture. Potato skin is a must order, too good to describe. Not forgetting the steak and the slow-cooked pork belly. My immediate thought after leaving the restaurant is "When am... More

Could not fault this restaurant, I thoroughly recommend a visit. Food is interesting and delicious. Service is FANTASTIC, atmosphere is great. The restaurant is very seperate to the bar/ beer garden. Staff couldn't have done enough for me with my pram and newborn including escorting me through beer garden entrance! Try the mash - delicious. My sister said the steak... More

The food is freshly prepared with care and if you want a lovely meal this is a great place right in the city. Too bad its close to a seedy set of clubs but its convenient for shoppers and tourists.

Located handy to our accomodation we dropped in for a late lunch. Very comfortable English parlour type seating with stuffed animals, hunt memorabilia, and suitable quotes adorning wall. We ate from set menu for $20 meals. I took the chefs recommendation of Pork Pie topped with caramelised onion on a bed of creamy mash potato. First class. Wife chose grilled... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
