Basically a middle eastern restaurant with a rooftop bar. Very limited selection of beers, and didn't really warm to the atmosphere. The decor is nice, but not really a place I'd visit too often. Can also rent shishka pipes.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at Sahara. Highly recommend the dips for entree and the lamb tagine with cous cous. The meat was cooked beautifully and the whole meal was amazing. Great service with very helpful and bubbly staff. Highly recommended for a great meal out.

At the top of a narrow stairway lies a fabulous little restaurant with a great atmosphere, attentive staff and some awesome food. Went for dinner and had a shared banquet. It was amazing. This is the second time I have been to Sahara, once with my brother and it was great, and then to impress a business associate. It worked... More

Dinner for 5 on a Friday night. Nice ambiance and styling. Food was mostly great. All of it was delicious. For the 5 of us we ordered the Sahara mixed grill, calamari, lamb tagine and Sahara salad with prawns. Food arrived in a timely manner and was all tasty. The only letdown was the Sahara salad. We asked for it... More

After change of management due to lack of foot traffic, attempt has been to get as much out of the customers as possible. Food is still pretty good but some of the items mentioned on the menu were not available. We were there on a Friday for lunch. At the time there were another four customers in the restaurant. It... You will take off your jacket after you have climbed the steep narrow steps to the rooftop. Ordered at the bar - goat curry... sorry, finished. Jerk chicken... sorry, all gone. Asked for recommendation. Tagines are all good. Three of us ordered two lamb and one chicken tagine. My lamb tagine was amazing. Huge serves. Layers of fragrance, pomegranate and... More

Absolutely terrible service! My friends and I came about 10pm there, and unfortunately it was full. When we asked manager about table, he just run away. Well, he could be busy. While we asked him 2nd time, he told us to move somewhere else, because it was full and we blocked his way. Waiters and him are probably from different... More

This is a fantastic rooftop bar for cocktails and if you want a light meal there were the tastiest small plates to share. Would love to come back for a sit down meal some time.

Moroccan don't serve tagine with rice... Although they usually serve a tagine with vegetables (even the meaty ones) and chickpeas, which were absent here. Same with the scallops served on mushy peas, I clearly never saw that one anywhere. Good flavours though and nice service. Desert not too good. Turkish delights are a but hard and baklava are dry

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
