We went here because I had a birthday coupon. The food is pretty decent, although not many options if you're a vegetarian. If you're a vegetarian though, I recommend the cauliflower frittatas. The bartender wasn't the friendliest, the only complaint I have.

Went to the bar for a comedy festival show. Bar is traditional U.K. style with great Scottish fare - haggis included. Evening was made uncomfortable by the owner who was off her head drunk, loud and obnoxious. Also comedy show was cancelled due to technical problems which was fine but we were waiting downstairs and only found out by venturing... More

Drinks were nice, atmosphere is great and staff is very friendly. Loved to come here for predrinks but they also serve great food. Got a voucher for our birthday, which was very nice. Good value for money, would definitely recommend.

Dropped into the Highlander Bar for a couple of drinks after a day in the city. It's open from lunch and is easy to access. It has booths and tables and we arrived about 9pm and it was buzzing inside. It's quite dark, but in a private, good way. Tables aren't too close together so you can talk privately, and... More

We went on a Tuesday night and a few other people had the same idea. I can see this place overflowing with people on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. The service was great and the staff were friendly. We will be back.

Bought a scoopon for this place. The burgers were great very tasty. The fries were too thin but still enjoyable lots of condiments. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place and definitely go again.

Only lost a star due to the stains on the couch by people who can't handle their alcohol. Otherwise we had a really good experience (Friday Lunch); we had a share platter that gave you a taste of the menu which was really nice. Between the four of us we had burgers for our mains including The Flying Scotsman, Highlander... More

Went there last night with my wife and we had a very nice evening. The food is delicious and arrives fast, the beer is ice cold, the staff are top notch and the atmosphere is romantic (no bright lights, no loud music). Highly recommended, I will be happy to go back.

We arrived on a very quiet Monday night greeted by a miserable bar maid. First they forgot about our drinks which we had to remind them about after half an hour (no apologies for forgetting). When the drinks finally came they were watered down and horrible. When our food finally came, it was all cold (the stuff that didn't get... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
