Got hungry and need some rice or Asian fish. We decided to walk down to China town and find our foods. Saw this place was busy and packed with Asian. The service was quick. Service was attentive. Ordered chili beef noodle and roasted duck with rice. The duck was ok but I like my egg noodle hot and beef was... More

The food is not ok. The restaurant opened in Chinatown supposed to bring really original Chinese food. But it's just below standard! And we were dining at off peak time, the waitress keep coming to clean up out table, even I still had my chopstick on hand checking my phone. And the second time, when she asked me if I finished.... We decided to have dinner here as it was free byo. We bought some drinks at the local vintage cellars across the road. No additional charge, so great. We had a great meal and very cheap. 2 of us had bbq pork & rice and 2 had fried char teow. Very delicious. We were served quickly and given a glass... More

City BBQ in Chinatown offers fresh, authentic, delicious Chinese, with generous serves & cups of refreshing tea. The service is exceptionally quick & friendly. The restaurant is no frills, fast in & out service, perfect for a quick bite before hitting the city.

Had dinner here with some friends. Pretty much was shown to a table and then no waitress service. We had to get the attention of the waitress for ordering and later on for drinks (as we had not been asked). Food was ok, I was disappointed with my San Chou Bau as the lettuce leaf was yellow not green! Fried... More

My wife and I both ordered satay prawns and special fried rice, The 10 very large prawns in each dish were fantastic and the rice was high quality too. The byo licence via a nearby bottle shop meant that the meal was wonderful value for money. Highly recommended.

Had been going here for years and it was great but this time, the prices had skyrocketed and the food was bland. REALLY over priced and not great- give it a miss...

Don't let the POOR street appeal prevent you from eating here. It looked like the locals knew where the good food at reasonable prices could be found. The service was even more impressive. 5 people Ordered, feed & paid for in 40 minutes. Decor has not change from the 3 star, yet the Duck Pancakes in my opinion are still... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
