This seems to be one of those restaurants that either people don't like or others rave about. I am amongst the latter. If you like Peking Duck this is authentic and very tasty. Everything about this upstairs restaurant is a little casual - or perhaps unpretentious - the way most Chinese diners prefer. It is BYOG, but there is a... More

I was in Melbourne as I am most weeks for work and decided I felt like chinese Cuisine. I searched online and found the Dahu Peking Duck restaurant famous for Duck... I ordered chicken as half a duck was too much for me alone, and ordered rice to go along with it. Probably the worst Chinese meal that I have... More

Enjoyed our dinner here tonight. Wasn't really sure what restaurant to go into when walking through china town, but a good random choice. Service was good and didn't have to wait for our meals long. Will be back to try more dishes. Very affordable eating. Not over priced like some Melbourne restaurants - so this is a good one! Recommended.... More

We enjoyed a Peking Duck banquet which was high quality food and very reasonably priced. The amount of courses in this banquet was unbelievable and too much to complete and so we took advantage of the take-away service using plastic containers. A nearby bottle shop was utilised to keep costs down.

The menu contains a wide range of dishes and will cater to most tastes. A main, steamed rice and two red wines came to $47 The food was well presented and very tasty. My only complaint was that, when charging my meal to my credit card, the staff member requested a tip - not classy and not necessary in Australasia

This is a favourite each time I come to Melbourne, and this time was no different. Group of four indulged in a range of tasty dishes, but the duck was excellent. We over-ordered but cost $50 per head including drinks.

My daughter and I had a quick dinner here in a quick overnight trip to Melbourne. I always try and have a meal here. We had pan fried dumplings, pork buns, 1/2 a Peking duck and Mongolian beef. It was all yummo and yes we were very full. 😋

One of many in Chinatown. Upstairs and quite nice setting. Nice table settings, not too squished, light and comfortable. Menu avoids Anglicised dishes which immediately makes it better than average. Variety should suit everyone although of course it emphasises the Duck. Service is very good with pleasant helpful staff. Price given the setting is very reasonable including the alcohol. We... Never had Peking duck. Was delicious. Try the string beans with chilli and pork mince. These beans were a treat.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
