I had good memories from a time back of the downstairs grill at Florentinos. It had both style and substance. Unfortunately with its renovations it has lost something of both. The decode is now bland. The meals were good if over large. Could not finish either the main or the desert. And the price does not reflect the diminished quality.... More

This review refers to Florentino Grill, ground floor - not the grand Grossi Florentino restaurant on the first. The Grill, updated in recent times, retains its atmospheric northern Italian style, however, the food perhaps favours a more southern slant - the chef is Calabrian after all. There's a great selection of pasta, enough meat and fish and, on the day... More

My wife and daughter arrived a little earlier than me, unfortunately I often run a little late. To start with, once I arrived it took quite a while to get the attention of staff who were very busy - likely as we were in a "have to be out by..." kind of booking. Yes we had pre-booked several days prior.... More

We chose this nice restaurant for special event. We made reservation and in the evening, my wife put nice dress and we took a taxi to have a nice dinner. The waiter explain something I could not understand. Here I must say that I have been in many restaurants all over the world, But here it is something strange: You... More

Had a wonderful time here. First visit since renovations. Enjoyed the special set menu with matching wines. Every course a stand out as was the wine choices. Service excellent. One of the best fine dinning meals I've had in Melbourne in ages. Would go back in a heartbeat.

I simply love this place. Coffee or breakfast or come for dinner. The service cannot be beaten and the food is consistently great.

Our table was well located by the window and the waiters were very helpful and friendly. The food was very average and highly overpriced as was the wine. My pasta dish as a main cost $40 and lacked flavour and was over salted. We ordered a 500 ml carafe of Chianti at $50 which was below average. Our total bill... More

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Grossi Florentino Upstairs. Pro - Superb service. All staff were exceptional. Attuned to our needs, wine/water glasses always topped up etc. - Courses were perfectly timed. - Food delicious (Highlights: Special fish, prawn risotto and duck). - Decor: Beautifully opulent old school glamour. - Enjoyable night (NOT rushed to finish!). Cons... More

It is a while since we have dined at thsi grand old Melbourne establishment. It did not disappoint with food and service still up to a great standard. Never cheep but you do not expect that from such an establishment. We loved the little plates between our courses. Our only concern is that the room needs to be refreshed and... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
