What a disappointment it was to be served bland and boring soft flat patties... the so-called, “Crunchy croquettes” with “buckwheat and macadamia nuts” were nothing of the sort! Four small, very thin, flat patties of seemingly mashed potato with NO crunch, NO nuts or any...More

The menu at Shakahari was difficult to choose from because everything was tempting and ntiguing. The meals ultimately were appetizing and refreshing. I am going vegetarian! 😀

I'm a meatatarian, but I was looking for a good place to take vegan friends. This is it - everything was tasty and filling, using spices very creatively to some up with appealing dishes. It's the only vegetarian restaurant I can say I really like.

It's always a bit trick to find a restaurant that can satisfy vegans and non-vegans alike and Shakahara has just the menu to please everyone. We shared the avocado magic entree, which was delicious and the perfect starter for 2 to share. The lasagne, with...More

As the heading suggests, the venue looks rather tired and could do with some freshening up. It was also very noisy. However the food was good - we had the Nonya Curry and Quinoa Croquettes - and the service friendly and efficient. Overall, 3.5 out...More

We met up with friends who'd been going to Shakahari for many years. We loved the atmosphere (though hot for these Alaskans!). We try to eat vegan as much as possible. Ordered a starter of Scent of Green Papaya and the Lasagne Puccini, with layers...More

Stopped in for a business lunch yesterday and we were so well looked after by our host - he was absolutely gorgeous and went above expectations to make sure we were all happy. I had the Thai Thai dumplings and they were absolutely amazing :)...More

It’s a 3.2. The venue is a bit tired. The menu is interesting but a bit heavy on a hot Melbourne night. Moving to an area with a portable air conditioner helped. The tastiest dish was a middle eastern cous cous with vegetables. The optics...More

The dining experience in the Lygon Street area is not what it once was, but Shakahari does stand out. I eat here a few times a year when I stay in the area. It is usually busy so I book ahead. The service is good...More

If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated
over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the
place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to
the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who
started their day with a local espresso. They are
gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this
Little Italy which has something for everyone.
