OMG-this is a little gold mine if you are after a Japanese restaurant in the city. Tucked away in Melbourne’s Chinatown this is currently my favourite place to eat and I can’t get enough. As you walk down a cobbled laneway, Corrs Lane, you will...More

Loved this place because as soon as you walk in the door you feel you back in Japan. Great experience with plenty of choice at reasonable prices. Beef stew and the tempura prawns and vegetables were delightful although portions on the smaller side. Thanks for...More

We, 2 of us, had dinner here again after a 6 year absence. Everything, except the waiters, was the same. All is still good, including the waiters. Thank you to all for a delightful and very reasonably priced dinner.

This was one of the first Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. When I first went there in about 1978, before embarking on my career which surely changed the very nature of Japanese translation as we know it, there was only Kuni's, that stupid Teppanyaki place, maybe...More

Usually I like small cosy places, but in the case of Yamato it worked against it. The booths are very cramped such that everytime someone sitting on the inside needs to go to the toilet, everyone has to get up to let them out. Having...More

Found this place by pure chance and very glad we stopped in for dinner. The place is tiny, so fills up in no time, but the food is great and the atmosphere is very Japan-like. Will come back.

This was such a great place to conclude 2016 with . We were interested in partaking in the banquet which included the Sukiyaki. The entrees preceding the mains were delightful and so tasty . The sashimi melted in my mouth and the everything we sampled...More

Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place
to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place
