Went for a quick late casual lunch - loved the variety of food, service and good quality ingredients. Only downside is quite pricey and limited wine list I felt. Def be back though.

loved the warm welcome, efficient service, delicious food & decor/ambience! There were 5 in our group & we each chose a different lunch set including shoya, take, ume, matsu & the one with unagi on rice. The tempura was a tad oily for me but the rest of the food was superb! The steak (ume set) melt in the mouth... More

I always go for the $38 Matsu set for lunch. Fresh sashimi, melt in your mouth wagyu steak. This place has a great upmarket feel that makes you full without the pretentiousness. My go to Japanese.

We have been coming to Shoya for special occasions over the last eight years. Over this period, the quality of the food and service has remained excellent; which is why we keep returning as we can be sure we will have a great dining experience. Management must be doing something right, as maintaining quality especially with staff service is not... More

So disappointed after reading so many great reviews. Booked a special dinner for the family for Christmas Eve. Arrived 6pm on the dot... We order set menus and a sushi boat. After the first course we were asked to keep our children quiet. We specifically asked when booking if they were family friendly. Our kids were just excited but not... More

Typically when I order miso soup in a Japanese restaurant this would be the first course served. However in the case of Shoya, my miso soup did not arrive until after everyone else main course had been served. We had to ask multiple times for the status of our soup before it arrived. Additionally, we ordered the Sushi Sashimi Moriawase... More

Three of us ordered the 5 course business lunch, each selecting a different main and being Singaporeans we of course shared the mains. They were all well presented and cooked to our specifications. Delicious! The starters and dessert were also of a high standard. We fully enjoyed the substantial but not over-powering meal, the service and the ambience. At a... More

We have eaten here many times over several years. Our experience on Sunday 31 October 2016 was certainly less than enjoyable. Poor service, poor organization and over priced

We went to Soya for dinner with friends two of which speak fluent Japanese. The BBQ we ordered had to be reconfirmed several times. They also forgot the wine and made many other mistakes with our food. The waitresses were disinterested and spoke very little English. The food was extremely overpriced. There are do many fabulous Japanese restaurants within the... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
