... and what a wonderful experience. We chose the 7 course option and the attentive waiter ensured the food was timely and well-explained. We sat at the counter and enjoyed watching the chef at work ... what a maestro!!! It was a real once-in-a-lifetime experience...More

An intercom to let you in to this small restaurant is just the beginning of a delightful and unusual experience. We chose the 5 course degustation menu with no knowledge of what that included. We chose our drinks, and for my sake I was also...More

Absolutely gorgeous meal and flawless service. We felt as though we were back in our old home in Tokyo. Every dish was technically superb and perfectly balanced, and matched with delicious sake. It was an absolute delight to spend 3 hours tasting our way through...More

Kappo is a omakase only restaurant with a choice of 5, 7 or 9 course. I am there by myself and opt for the 9 course with sake matching. It is a small dining room with 10 seats at the chef table with 2 extra...More

WE chose the 7 dishes option and each course was a unique and imaginative gastronomic experience. The slow-cooked abalone was the best we've ever eaten, even the salad with its shredded crisp parsnip was a dish to be savoured. The house sake was well-priced and...More

I went with my wife and had the 5 course menu before a show. Straight up, if you are looking for a loud buzzy izakaya this isn't the place. It is Japanese done beautifully, carefully, with very attentive service. It's omakatse done well. I'd advise...More

Honestly when we walked in I wasn't impressed with the decor. I was aware that I would be paying a bit for a meal so a small sushi bar type vibe didn't impress me. Our booking was early, 6.30pm and the place was empty. Degustation...More

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways
tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary
feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the
city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques,
throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You
never quite know what you’ll find around the next
corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and
even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air

There are three chefs' selections (omakase) and people can choose to have 5, 7 or 9 courses. Rather than a menu diners are given a list of seasonal ingredients and the chef presents the dishes, people can choose not to have any items on the list which is great for dietary requirements. "Kappo is the expression of the seasons, an example of traditional Japanese food with a modern touch".
