Food was basic quire tasty but the atmosphere was weird, quite a few tables that night were complaining about issues they had, made the older guys serving very jumpy and felt like they were rushing around, found many better Italian restaurant in Melbourne.

Sadly this place has gone off. The first few of times I ate here I was impressed with the friendly service and lovely food. Now they are simply interested in getting you in the door and no wonder - the patronage has dropped significantly. The serves are now small and over priced. I gave them a couple of chances after... Sadly after over 10 years of great evenings the standard has dropped so badly that we will not be back. We hear that the chef has moved and the new chef is terrible. The chicken was overcooked and tough, the other meals lacked flavour and the waitress had to continually refer to the chef for questions about the menu. Just... More

I'm sorry to hear that were not happy with your experience as we pride ourselves with the quality of our dishes and service. Your waiter recently started working with us and was asked by your table regarding coeliac safe dishes among other questions. We treat such things seriously and regardless of the waiters confidence will confirm with the chef. Regarding... More

As you walk along Lygon Street there are many "spuikers" trying to get you into their restaurants / free drinks etc. At Pasta Rustico there was a lovely gentlemen who only promised you would not be disappointed with the restaurant. He was correct. It was relatively quiet, service was prompt and efficient. We started with herbed bread, mains Vitello Funghi... More

We decided to dine at La Spaghettata following the various reviews on Tripadvisor. I regret to say we were disappointed. The grilled scampi was very over grilled. The grilled barramundi was bone dry due to over grilling The veal saltimbocca was tiny pieces of veal in a thick very salty sauce. We didn't enjoy our meals at all. The staff... More

The food, service and value for money were excellent. We all ordered pasta dishes and, given the size of the servings, the ladies were struggling to finish their meals. Will definitely be returning next time we're in Melbourne!

The afternoon was wet and windy after a torrential downpour. At 5pm we wanted something warm. Even though the restaurant was just setting up for dinner, they made us feel very welcome. The chicken salad was fresh and herb bread delightful. Steak was cooked to perfection. We recommend the panna cotta and tiramisu for dessert.

Sitting at the table watching the world pass by was a great way to spend a summer's lunch. Rustic interior with matching waiter. Food was prompt, carbonara was awesome. Kids menu is basic, but covers the usual suspects. Only a few pizza options, so more focussed on pastas than anything else. Lots of options for Italian on Lygon, this won't... More

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
