Walking past staying near by, dropped in for a beer, staff were friendly and I was offered a taste of beers before purchasing, sitting at the bar, listening to some great music watching patrons enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, I read through reviews and realized you...More

The Lumsden was lovely. Located in Newmarket, this pub type restaurant offers something for almost everyone, vegans included. We went on quiz night, which sounded like loads of fun. Sadly, they didnt have any Gluten Free buns. 'Whaaaaat?!! In this day and age??' So, I...More

We visited the bar after the Lions All Blacks test match and there was a good atmosphere amongst patrons discussing rugby and generally having a good time but staff were very unfriendly and officious. The lady who seemed to be the manager caused a major...More

Sometimes it is necessary to express just how terrible service can be. The Lumsden bar deserves special mention as being the worst experience i have ever experienced. Not only are the bar staff rude. It was also the first time i have ever experienced a...More

Hi there, I would love to have some more details if you can provide them to me. It's appalling you had this experience and I would like to get to the bottom of it. Can you remember the exact time and the day? I ask,...More

If you are looking for somewhere away from the CBD and with character and a welcome then visit the Lumsden. The range of beers on offer would satisfy any beer expert. We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food - but would strongly...More

Hi there Velox, thanks for your review! Really appreciate it, as do most owners as most people only ever go on these sites to rant. Thanks for taking the time. I hope you get to try it out again soon and try the food....not great...More

Out in a group of 4 mature women after the movies. We were shouted at by some officious woman as we entered and it went downhill after that. Eventually refused service by a barman saying we had been trouble since we entered. We overheard someone...More

Where to start? Everything was terrible. We ordered a fish burger, and a "cheese steak" burger. We then waited, and waited, even though the restaurant was almost completely empty. We filled the time by watching the "mice with wings" (sparrows) fly in and out of...More

We were in Auckland for a few weeks and frequented a few times to this establishment. The range of beers is great and the spicy chicken wings are amazing. They really are as hot as the menu suggests!

What is a Freehouse you ask? In a nutshell, it is exactly that...A bar that is Free from Big Brewery influence. We pour what we want based on taste and customer feedback. We are not under any contracts with any brewery so we only stock the very best that NZ brewers have to offer.
Welcome to the home of Craft Beer in Newmarket, Auckland!
A cool and laid back bar, with 15 local brews on tap, playing sweet tunes, with ideas and concepts throughout the bar that are just a little bit crafty. From darts, to pool, to chalkboard tables that have tic tack toe (naughts and crosses) lines painted on them so you can challenge your mates, to coasters made from recycled beer boxes, it's all a little crafty.
Kick back and try one of the largest craft beer selections Auckland has to offer. Conveniently located on the corner of Khyber Pass Road and Broadway in Newmarket, there is ample parking all around us in the many towers as well as plenty of street parking.
