We're in town for a week, with mealtimes providing the structure to our days. We've visited some terrific places, but Ima takes the cake! Simple, but spectacularly-delicious food in a welcoming environment with charming staff. We plan to return for another meal before we leave Auckland!

Went there on a Sunday for Lunch. The food was really delicious, the portions were really generous. It was a very busy day, the staff looked a bit overwhelmed, took a little while to get someone to take our order, but once the food was on the table, we forgot about the wait :) The only thing I would change... A warm welcoming atmosphere that suited a drizzling evening and made us feel comfortable. We shared a brik and some kebi, both delicious. Then enjoyed lamb and chicken accompanied by a wonderful plate of a variety of salads. The pastry plate was wonderful, especially the filo 'cigarettes' filled with Turkish delight and crushed nuts. Good attentive and informative service. An... More

Their service here is amazing! One of the best I've received in an auckland restaurant! Shout out to Talia who is the owner's daughter who literally took on every duty from front of the house, to taking our order, to serving, and then cleaning up. Cannot praise this young girl enough for her hard work. On the food front, it... More

I really like the food at Ima Cuisine, but I can't justify spending the $ they charge. I love the Shakshuka dish - but how can they charge $23 for some tomatoes, onions, a couple of eggs, some bread and what is at most five 1cm sausage pieces. Won't be going back I'm afraid - at that cost, I'll learn... More

Very nice place for brunch. The tables are recycled, along with the selection of dining chairs. The light fitting creat a lot of discussion so all that before you eat. Nice coffee and tea service. Breakfast was all you need and was well presented.

I love Middle Eastern food, love it. So I was hankering to go here, even more so after they appeared in the Metro top 50. A bustling place, I wouldn't really recommend it for a romantic dinner (unless you're out the back perhaps) as it is pretty busy - with tables of friends enjoying communal dining at its best. I... We got what we came for : healthy ME food served in a casual, homely atmosphere. Friendly waitresses. Don't dine at Ima's if you want cold starchy service. We felt comfortable and at home right from the start.

First visit to this homely cafe with a group of friends. Seemed an intriguing environment after the nearby stylish Britomart. The staff were obliging and willing to explain the intricacies of the menu, and there was no long wait for the food. Everyone at our table were more than happy with their choices, Latkes, Bourekas, Shakshuka, and Malawak - all... More

The venue is centrally located, it has a rustic atmosphere and it gets quite lively. The staff are very pleasant and chatty. The food is quite good but the portions truly very small for what they charge. I personally thought it was a joke. One can get better value for money elsewhere in Auckland.

Description
Middle Eastern inspired breakfast, lunch and a family-style sharing dinner. Cooking has always been the focus of my life, I've been a cook since my early teens. However when I left Israel to study in the UK, it really dawned on me just how important good food is - how great food can lift your spirit and make you happy, and bad food can bring you down. I came to NZ from Israel in late 1997 with two little girls and pregnant with the third. The food I love was very hard to find and I missed it terribly, and so I opened the Lunch Box. Ima is my second venture in Auckland. Ima (pronounced EE-Mah) means mother in Hebrew. My food is simple, honest, healthy and nurturing, like mum's food (providing she is a great cook). At Ima the atmosphere is warm and casual. At Ima the atmosphere is warm and casual, we hope our guests feel immediately comfortable and at home. We invite you to enjoy our food - made with love and the finest ingredients - we know it will make you happy! - Yael Shochat, Owner
