We planned an early lunch arriving at 11.20am to find the lunch menu doesn't start until 11.30 am so we choose from the breakfast menu. Our meals were great, the mushrooms delicious and scrambled eggs with fresh herbs tasty. The cheese scones from the cabinet however were fabulous and fluffy and soft and the best scones in Wellington. The coffee... More

I'm coeliac and need gluten free food. Nikau bake their own gf bread and it's really good. I had sage fried eggs with avocado which was an unusual take on conventional fried eggs. It was great. Great service and coffee as well.

Made straight for this place on arriving in Wellington because of recommendations. Arrived about 45 - 50 minutes before advertised closing time to be told that we could have a coffee but they were no longer serving cakes (although there were some in cabinet). Extremely disinterested waitress. The place was not busy but we waited 20 minutes for cold coffee.... More

Had a great breakfast here (after eventually finding it! Don't follow street address - it's on the outside corner of the city gallery). Has great coffee and helpful friendly staff. The scrambled eggs are really good and my two boys enjoyed the pancakes and rice pudding. Definitely worth a visit. Lovely location in the cultural precinct.

I LOVE Nikau and have only ever had great experiences here. Favourites are the sage fried eggs, kedgeree, artichokes on toast or the mussels. Highly recommend.

this is the best place for coffee or lunch in Wellington. Visit the City Gallery and then enjoy a meal next door.

No water view but a sunny and sheltered courtyard area in addition to indoor dining - we enjoyed breakfast and found the café very receptive to adjusting the meals to our vegetarian tastes - great service and food; highly recommended - hot breakfasts and coffees for 2 for well under $20 a head :-)

Chose Nikau off TripAdvisor after a look through the Anzac display at Te Papa. Not that easy a place to find. On North-East corner of Gallery building. Busy as a busy thing at about 1.00pm. Interesting selection of usual cafe fare and also some unique dishes. I had the Kingfish ceviche with radish and lettuce. Thought it might have a... More

Delicious food and great service well worth a visit. Bit hard to find tucked in off the street. Go up stairs half way along Harris street.

Kelda, co-owner and chef, is a legend in Wellington for her kedgeree, which is a great lunch dish. The menu is varied and the service is excellent. Often full at lunch time, it pays to book. Lovely light atmosphere, with outside courtyard. Closed for dinner.
