Brilliant Bower – Family friendly 5*

I had preconcieved ideas about this place due to its location in this neighbourhood. We decided to go there on the way home to test out the playground and have some morning tea. I have never been so wrong about a place. This place is...incredibly! Five stars! Thank you! It is set up in two halves, bar and café, each in a container. We had our young children with us so we didn’t visit the Bower Bar, only the Urban Corner Café. Walking in was like – wow! It is like an art gallery and boutique gift shop in one. I was quite taken back. I didn’t expect this at all. It was sweet, charming, homely, clean, nicely presented and welcoming. We found the counter and the owner greeted us warmly and was really pleasant. After we ordered we seeked the playground outisde. What a playground!! It is all barked and has a brilliant little selection of safe, well maintained and clean equitment for kids. Our children are 4 and 2 and they really enjoyed all of the playground there which was great. There are picnic tables right there in the playground so that you can supervise their play. The food that we ordered came out really fast and each thing we ordered was fantastic thank you. The fries were like McDonald ones, but thicker. Just perfect. The berry muffin was light and fluffy. Just perfect. The flat white and the fluffies were also just perfect. I hightly recommend this place for those that have little ones, where they can play safely, whilst you can watch and enjoy a great coffee and have bite to eat. Thank you. We will return!More

Marvelous meal

Our son took us out for a meal and he took us to the bower and urban corner cafe and we had a great time

Proper pub for real people.

Proper pub for real people. Pool table, beer garden, live music, pokies, separate restaurant area. Very welcoming local pub with everything you need and nothing you don’t. Good honest fried pub food, nothing fancy but done very well. Great place to hang out on a...Sunday afternoon.More

Great food great service

The service was awesome and the food was great value for money. We got the $59 platter and it was huge.

Great pub grub and beer!

Excellent food; we had “piglet platter”, fantastic smoked beef in particular, tender and tasty! Very chilled atmosphere, sports bar aspect not too intrusive for non-sports fans. Thx!

13th birthday lunch

We went there for lunch and we were greeted by very rude waiting staff. Food was mice but the stuttering idiot needs to work on his customer service

Paradise for meat lovers

Friendly service is all very well, but I want good food, and the Bower delivers. Ribs that fall to pieces, brisket that has more flavour than you can imagine, the best wings in existence...

Great coffee, scrummy food and friendly service.

My husband and I had breakfast at the Corner Cafe. We had a breakfast panini and a coffee. The panini was full of flavour and plentiful, the coffee was strong and rich and the service was quick and very friendly.

Testing the new menu

I ordered Tacos Smoked Brisket sweet pickle & smokey sauce, with a side of sundresses waffle fries, topped with sour cream and sweet chilli sauce. Wow!! Wow!! Wow! Get down here and try these for yourself. Check out the new menu, as great as any...restaurant overseas. And the service from Will, Rach and Dave outstanding! One visit will sell you and you will keep coming back....More

Best in Christchurch

Went for the first time today with our 3yr old and another couple also with a 3yr old and a newborn. Awesome place for kids with a great outdoor area/playground that is safe and secure. The staff were awesome and friendly and welcoming. I got...the ribs and they were absolutely mind blowing. A ridiculously massive platefull for $15. Apparently its a regular Sunday special 10/10. Good tap beer too. I couldn't fault a thing and will be back. Easily the best spit we've found in Christchurch if you've got kids in tow or just want a good feed or to chill out with a cold beer in laid back surroundings. GET THE RIBS.More

Meals

I line up every week here for meals Sunday for Ribs $15 usually have to take a doggie bag home Monday Burgers 2 for 1 great burgers especially "the Bower" Thursday is Steak night $15 with garlic butter mmmmm Friday is Pork Belly with mash...& gravy $15 great food! Calamari is to die for Wedges Bacon & Cheese great meal for that dont know what I want time! The staff are fantastic and you will be very well looked after! Huge play area for the kids outside, plenty of places to explore and use imagination, tables and chairs outside on the deck for mum and dad. A lounge area outside to chill out in with a glass of wine and a book if that's what you feel like. Urban Corner - The Bower a fantastic find in New Brighton. There is also retro goodies to buy all around the restaurant. A bar, pool tables, cookies and wonderful inside and outside areas for families, singles, groups. If you haven't been to the Bower - Urban Corner you don't know what you are missing. Its built from 18 containers, worth having a look inside.... Hope to see you there.More

Lunch was fantastic

Went to lunch with friends and instead of my usual chowder or ribs which are both fantastic I tried the squid. Omg it was amazing, this is now my second favorite place for squid. Can't wait to go back again

Great family breakfast outing

We popped in this morning with our two children (17 months and 4 months) and are so pleased that we did. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Our eldest son loved exploring the large play area. This is so well set up for children; clean, safe...and lots of variety. He also enjoyed his kids platter. It was good to see a clear separation from the bar/pub area and the children’s play area. Happy children = happy parents (especially when eating out). Will be back :-)More

Lovely staff, service and food.

I've been meaning to review for a while. Love this place. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. I normally have ribs or seafood chowder and it's always fabulous. Today we stopped in for cake and coffee, carrot cake was the best ever. It's a...secret gem of the east.. love the art too and have bought several items in the last year. Even the play area for kids is good. Can't wait to return.More

Great place for a family lunch!

With toys inside and a fully fenced playground outside, this place is great for the fam. Clean and friendly, we've not haf a bad visit yet. Would love to see smaller portions and cheaper options for kids though. Great food selection but the portions are...big - which is great for mums! But little bowls/samplers would be super!More
