I have eaten here before and been really impressed. On this visit it was average. I know it was a busy weekend - graduations etc- but had still hoped to have a memorable experience here again. Sadly it was not. The food was fine and if I had not had such an exceptional experience the time before I would have... More

The food was amazing, the staff were wonderful. I left very happy! If I were to make one or 2 minor observations , having the right glass for the right wine, it's something many places in nz seem to not bother about. And aioli. It's a little bit outdated and I'm sure some of the dishes would benefit from a... More

brought family from overseas here as have had perfectly cooked seafood here in the past. unfortunately the food tonight was way below average, was like the paua fritters tasted so strongly of pepper you couldn't taste the paua at all, and the fish was dry and waaay over seasoned. the side dishes of vegetables tiny, boring and also with tons... It was a family dinner for three adults. We all ate cod baked in citrus crust and melon salsa. The cod melted! It was sensational. We shared perfectly cooked new potatoes, red cabbage and bacon and sour cream, green beans and chill and almonds. There was nothing left on any of the plates. We drank a Felton Road Pinot Noir,... This restaurant was suggested by the manager of our hotel and we appreciate the suggestion. It was hard to find a good restaurant open on Sunday off-season in Dunedin but Plato was. The service was great - the waitress explained all the specials and types of fish available. The portions like all NZ restaurants are large and the food is... More

Quiky restaurant specialising in seafood - had an issue with being able to use their online booking system but secured a table using the traditional method (phone). Extremely friendly and slick service, reasonable prices and delicious food. A good range of specials complemented the regualr menu. Portion sizes a little too big for me but thats the only grumble really.

Tried Plato after it was recommended by a lovely local and were not disappointed. The quirky interior and location hide a real jewel of a restaurant. One of our group had a very fresh seafood chowder, others had a prawn and papaya salad I went for the mushroom, garlic and lemon risotto with mascapone and blue cheese. I'm not a... More

This place was recommended at our B&B by our host and it was worth it. The fish was perfectly prepared with superbly judged accompanying sauces/flavours. The service was excellent and the wine was good. Very quirky decor, which we enjoyed. Not the least bit stuffy--all about flavours! Go there.

Excellent seafood down by the port. For us a 30 minute walk, but worth it! If Bluff Oysters are in season don't miss them!
