We not only had the best food we've had in many years, but we also had top notch service! This was a beautiful evening with the most delicious food. After their amazing swordfish starter, we then feasted on the Beef Wellington! Wow, it earned the Michelin stars it received, for sure! It's a must in Queenstown, but make sure you... More

Was my Husbands big birthday on Saturday and we chose to dine at Rata again as we had been there before. It was equally superb. It's not cheap by any means but so tasty and beautifully presented. Get your selfs in there. You won't be disappointed 👍🏼

If you are looking for delicious food, wonderful wine and great atmosphere, please make Rata one of your go-to restaurants while in Queenstown. The food was so good, we dined at this beautiful restaurant twice during our holiday! It is hard to recommend any particular dish as there were four of us and we sampled each others dinners and all... More

The entrance to Rata is down an alley and behind another lane, and if you have old eyes like me, it's not the easiest place to find. However, we did manage to get there on time for our reservation. The waiter was very patient as we asked questions about some of the dishes and he told us how they were... More

Beautiful food in a stylish contemporary setting. Great choice of wine and friendly knowledgeable staff, our waiter from Montreal was superb. I couldn't manage the cheeseboard which was brought over and the cheeses explained, such a nice touch, but the chocolate dessert with balsamic berries was divine. Many thanks to the chefs who put these wonderful dishes together. Highly recommend... More

The food was great but quantity rather restrained. No reasonable vegetarian option and no vegan option at all. Very expensive. Waitress was not clear about explaining that 'water with bubbles' was charged at an exorbitant rate but had offered that or filtered water as if they were both not charged. Good service with a smile. Very Un kiwi to be... More

Our second trip to rata, because the last experience was incredible. The decor and ambience were lovely, and the food was delicious, however the sticking point for us was our waitress. While she was pleasant and well presented, she became very confused about our order, and came back twice to confirm what we had asked for. It was not a... More

We had a very pleasant dinner at this venue. The restaurant does not face the street directly but is accessed via a laneway. The decor could be described as modern and rustic, like many restaurants these days, with a smoothed cement floor, large glass windows and exposed air conditioning ducting on the ceiling. The tables are pleasantly and sufficiently apart... More

Good restaurant for Queenstown, town essentially for tourism, we have to say. The meal is tasty, sufficiently imaginative but not really fusion ( to be the best, try a little bit more) and really good for the island. A good chief...The dessert was fantastic. The service is perfect, friendly..not cheep

Description
Rata is a collaboration between internationally recognised Michelin starred & New Zealand Masterchef judge, Josh Emett and highly regarded local restaurateur, Fleur Caulton. Their company, Mayfare Limited, is fast becoming synonymous in New Zealand for creating genuine dining experiences that are contemporary and inspired.
'Uniquely Southern', Rata takes inspiration from the Southern landscapes and everything that epitomises New Zealand. The decor uses influences from the Otago scenery mixed with modern industrial elements and reclaimed & repurposed vintage items to create a uniquely contemporary and welcoming dining room.
Queenstown's cooler climate lends itself to Josh's love of slow cooked dishes and robust flavours, the discipline of his Michelin star background and that of Executive Chef Chris Scott who
heads up the Rata kitchen, ensures elegant well-balanced and inspired cuisine that always showcases the best of regional and seasonal produce.
The wine list proudly showcases wines from the Otago region and afar with a large selection of wines by the glass to give the diners variety, and match easily with the style of food.
Rata is a relaxed eating-house with a neighbourhood feel, excellent service and exceptional food. Located discreetly away from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown, tucked alongside heritage buildings with several dining spaces perfect for lunch, dinner and casual grazing.
Rata is the ideal place to unwind and enjoy award winning and genuine Southern hospitality.
