This restaurant was recommended by our motel as the place they eat and we were not disappointed. It has a lovely relaxing atmosphere and our food was excellent. We would return often if it wasn't the other side of the world!

Outdated even by New Zealand standards. Menu said Indian chef so i thought curry of the day would be good. How wrong can i be. Maybe in the 1960's it might have been acceptable when nobody knew what a good curry was but in 2017!!!! Found out after our meal that the chef had worked in a hospital kitchen. Never... More

Disappointing waited 45 minutes for our meal to come out.Another couple left because they got sick of waiting. Then my pork belly was dry and stringy. The girl that was on the front desk was nice and friendly though. We wouldn't go back after that.

Took son here last night - very hungry as his bus arrived 40 minutes latel. I'd never tasted Duck, glad I did ! A generous portion on wilted greens and small half potatoes, and a tasty jus. Son enjoyed a steak dish with mashed potato and bacon. Mains priced $25-$26. I like the privacy of the booth seating.

Excellent food well prepared, well presented and competitively priced by the owner/chef with first class front of house support. Highy recommended.

I'm really glad that I never read any reviews before we went here for dinner or we probably would have missed out on a great meal! We found the food to be delicious. We had a chowder and garlic bread to start which was very nice (good chunks of mussels too), then literally as we were just having the last... More

A friend, who lives in Thames, recommended this restaurant when I asked her advice on somewhere for dinner. We were not disappointed. On arrival we were offered the choice of a booth or an ordinary table, and chose the booth as they have comfortable seats. The waitress was courteous, brought iced water immediately and removed the extra place settings. We... More

My partner and I were on our way to coromandel and thought we would stop in Thames for dinner as a treat. We saw gastronomics was open so thought we would give them a try,We sat down and ordered our starter which was garlic bread drenched in butter which we didn't finish and we both ordered the "beef tender "... Gastronomics describes itself as an ‘award winning chef owned and operated restaurant’. We were sadly disappointed. Whilst the first course (we had venison kofta kabab and salt & pepper calamari) was fine, the “cranberry chicken” was very dry and the service was appalling. The single waitress, who appeared to have no idea what she was doing, attempted to remove the... More
