I loved this seafood BBQ! its just a cart style set up with seats and tables on the grass looking over the beach, so its simple NZ bbq style eating not fine dining. I loved the laid back feel so much I went back the next day too. the food was great and its nice to try some local seafood.... More

We were very happy that we stopped by. Friendly service. Constant stream of people coming by to eat. Nice outdoor spot to enjoy the fresh seafood overlooking the ocean. We ordered crayfish and whitebait fritter. They were fresh and tasty.

Stopped off while doing the peninsula walk- just had a crayfish sandwich - very popular with tourists probably not locals as appears pricy for what it is. But location is great if doing the walk and need a snack

In general food service in Kaikoura is expensive, and not all that good. The obvious rationale is "they will come once, and we take them for all they have". Not every tourist is prepared to pay $30 for a $20 meal and whoever set this up obviously read the market. In a crayfish fishing village you have to sell crayfish... More

There was a bit of a EFTPOS stuff up with the payment and we ended up paying twice, but we got great service from them in sorting it out. The food was delivered quickly, it was good value and was tasty. My favourite was the grilled fish. Chowder had a good flavour with whole mussels and fish, although could have... More

It's good to find something to eat in the middle of nowhere, but smell of fish and aggressive seagulls do not help to make it an attractive shop!

It was fun sitting on the edge of the beach eating from this food van. The food was OK, the lobsters reheated from frozen and cooked and fairly expensive. That said, some thing you do just for the experience and I didn't regret the money spent.

Was here in early November as it was highly recommended by our great hosts at the Austin Heights B&B. They knew what they were talking about! Great seafood grill. Amazing scallops and tasty crayfish. We also had scallops and the seafood chowder. All were great. It is not cheap but you are getting a nice meal with quality products. You... More

If you like fresh seafood, prepared simply on the BBQ hotplate for a reasonable price; get yourself here! I [personally go for the seafood smokey chowder, plus a side of paua (abalone fritter) or grilled mussels or whitebait fritters (in season) or crayfish or scallops etc etc Well, you get the picture...

We were visiting Kaikoura because of the whale watching. From our tour guide we knew this place is well known for great crayfish. Because we tried our trip to make very low cost but we wanted to try this delicacy, somebody from the whale crew recommended us this awesome place. It was very crowded there, but it was very quick.... More

Recommended by Lonely Planet. Freshly cooks seafood to order on BBQ outdoors. Very good and cheaper than the local restaurants. Everything served in a sandwich or with rice and salad. Open daily weather permitting from 11am
