Very good indeed. I spend long periods of time i n Walsall and recently discovered this restaurant. I enjoyed the Short Soup (best I've had in years) and the Fillet steak with pepper sauce (sliced think and served with sauce). Very good indeed. The desert...was also fresh and enjoyable banana fritter with iced cream - hot crispy fritter). Very reasonable prices and good service.More

We don’t often get Chinese food, but when we do Heng Loong is the best! Tonight we dined in. Great service and the lady who runs the business talks to the diners. Definitely recommend the dumplings, wontons and fried dim sims. We also had the...beef ho fan and Peking steak. Finished off with fried icecream! Good range of drinks too. Everything was excellent!!! Not cheap but you also leave knowing that the quality is there.More

It was getting a bit late in the day as we were heading home via Wallsend so we checked out google for a good chinese restaurant. We found the Heng Loong, Thanks Mr Google what a find... Set in the former Old Wallsend Library with...its ornate and high ceilings... It didn't take long for our food order to arrive but when it did it 'knocked me over' with its full Asian flavours and superb taste. I even found my old favourite from years back, Garlic Prawns in a hot metal dish... Everything else we ordered was just as good, I highly recommend the Heng Loong for a great Chinese Meal..More

when in town I have gone to this restaurant 4 times now 3 to dine and once to get takeaway. i realised this week that the only reason i keep going back is because wallsend does not have a better option and i realised that...i like going to heng loong not for the food but because its in a nice old library building. the decor is new and fresh and it feels nice inside not the usual tacky Chinese decor of the past. The takeaway i ordered was a short soup and a rice noodle dish. soup noodles were over cooked and the filling was the worst I ever tasted, the noodles looked like a pad thai but all i could taste was soy sauce, not that great at all. this week i went there with a few people and mongolian lamb was so tender it tasted like sludge instead of actual meat an awful experience. The rice was okay no where near the best and certainly not what you expect from a so called restaurant winner. the soup noodles once again were over cooked and the inside while tasting okay not great looked more like very dense ( i was gong to say dog food) strange texture and colour unlike any dumpling i have ever had. none of us liked the food. it wasnt awful but ... actually it kind of was. The worst thing was... each of us had the worst flatulence, it was so bad that i had to ask the others and each of my friends said "well funny that you ask" so.. it would be great to know what is it that they actually put in the food there ?? This restaurant claims to be the best in the area, thats not because you are so great heng loong but because you are the only Chinese restaurant pretty much in that area all the great ones have closed over the years. you are missing a great opportunity. you have great location, really great building, pretty good staff and really bad food. there isnt a better option in the area at the moment but my pick over this would be the fire station hotel. not Chinese but the food is good. if you want good chineese go to pauls asian in Lambton a 10 minute drive. i havnt reviewed anything in so long but this was bad enough to get me out of retirement. I actually wish we all went to maccas instead.More

This is my go to chinese takeaway. Food is consistently delicious. I have tried a variety of dishes my favourite is always Beef Ho Fan but haven't had a bad meal at all. Staff is friendly and attentive. It is a wee pricey for takeaway...tho specially if ordering for a whole family.More

What a truly fabulous find last night. We were visiting Wallsend overnight, as I had a medical appt at JHH, so we wanted to grab something for dinner close to our accommodation. The staff were warm and welcoming with friendly smiles and the food was...fresh and tasty. I ordered the prawn cocktail, haven’t had that entree in years and I wasn’t disappointed. And my brother had the mini spring rolls, followed by garlic combination and a small fried rice and seafood combination for myself. The meals came out promptly and were hot and full of flavour. I was going to take photos, but after one bite it was too good not to enjoy.More

Food is so fresh with great flavours. The service is fantastic and it was very reasonably priced for for the quality of food. Ambience was good set in an old historical library.

Came here for my grandfathers birthday. The manager gave him a free beer, which was nice. We had the banquet which was nice, but a bit pricy

The place from the outside and inside looks great (former library building). The service was really good unlike some other Chinese restaurants. Table service was fairly fast considering the amount of people in the restaurant. Personally, I found the prices higher than average for he...type of cuisine and the quality of food was ok but for me was not to what I was hoping for.More

Wow, no wonder they have been serving the local community for over 26 years. The food here is amazing. It is cooked with love and absolutely homemade. The staff have obviously embraced the love and commitment from the owners. They were smiling, happy and above...all there to service your needs. Our son lives locally and had only had take away from here. We are in Newcastle for his wedding so he took his mum and dad here because he know we love great food, we were not disappointed. Do yourself a favor, come down here, you will be happy with the deep traditional dishes they have on offer.More

I have been eating from Heng Loong for over 25 years. , following them from their different premises. Always the freshest food and not oily. Great service and the owner always comes over and says hello. The best Chinese Restaurant in the Hunter region.
