It's been three years since our last visit to Strelec and wow - we have been most pleasantly surprised by the experience. At our first visit, I complained about too formal and impersonal service and dishes that were correct, but not something one would expect...in one of the best restaurants in Slovenia. Perhaps the reason was that the first visit was during the restaurants' week and with a tasting menu costing 17 EUR only. Now, it was a "proper" visit. The service was perfect. Swift, precise, without mistakes. But what counted most was the waiter's enthusiasm for gastronomy, It was not just a professionalism, but a personal devotion. Talking to him about the ingredients, dishes, and techniques made our evening much more interesting. It was all done as a friendly chat, making us feel visiting someone's home. Thanks! The food was better as well. We chose a 5-course tasting menu. We liked the variation of cauliflower - grilled (as a puree), fried, raw with vinegar. With a simple and humble ingredient, truffles were served as a contrast: in breadcrumbs with brown butter, in mayonnaise, and grated. Perhaps a bit too much, especially since the dish before (steak tartare) was heavy on truffles as well. Both meat and fish as main dishes were perfect. Venison was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The side dish was a variation of beetroot; so good that even a sworn beetroot-hater as I am liked it. The turbot was even better. Poached in butter, refreshed by citruses in breadcrumbs with pine nuts, and paired with gyoza dumplings that were tasty but were not perfect in technical execution (the bottom could have been crispier to emphasize the contrast of textures). Actually, we only disliked one of the amuse bouches - a celery roll with beef tongue, Bohinj trout foam, and trout caviar. It was way too fishy and strong in flavours and as such not the best start of the meal. But overall, Strelec lived to expectations. It actually IS one of the best restaurants in Slovenia and we will gladly return.More

I went to Strelec during Teden restavracij (Restaurants week, when restaurants have promotions with special menus for a more affordable price). I would rate my visit 8/10. The pros: very tasty and well-prepared food, beautiful presentation, wines were mostly very good, the service was very...professional. The cons: a bit pricey (it's possible I'm just a cheapskate though), our table wasn't stable (moving when you put your hands on), one of the wines my girlfriend had wasn't good (yet still very expensive), and the portions were a bit small (particularly the side dish). And they changed the dessert in the original menu, without telling anyone (imagine coming to such an expensive restaurant and realizing you hate one of the ingredients in the changed dish, or worse yet, that you're allergic to one). It was a nice experience, but I don't know if I would visit again, because you can eat similar quality food with bigger portions at cheaper restaurants (speaking from experience).More

Full of flavors, full of love! Amazing our experience here, the food is awesome, in our opinion one of the best in Europe. Ask for the Trout, beef tartare, cauliflower with truffles...... Erik is the maestro! Service 1000%, congrats. we can’t wait to come back

We had a really special meal here , starting with the beautiful room. We had the 5 course meal at 57euro, and asked for mainly vegetarian with fish main. Everything was exceptionally well cooked with a fantastic mix of flavours and textures. The cauliflower and...truffles was the standout. In any other capital city this would be 50% more, and the wine list is good value too. Well worth the Gault Millau 17/20.More

I took my wife for a romantic dinner and what could be better than having a dinner in a castle above Ljubljana, enjoying great view over the city and treat ourselves with excellent food. As we wanted to be surprised we went for a 7...course dinner with red wine. Absolutely the right choice. The food was delicious and the service was really good. As it is top end restaurant the price is higher but definitely worthwhile for once in a while. Please note you need to make a reservation in advance.More

I think you have to book in advance. We had the 4 course surprise menu. One vegetarian and one with meat, but without fish. The two greetings from the kitchen were really good - especially the smoked butter. All following courses were extremely delicious and...well thought through. It was a bit pricy - but totally worth the money, if you want to spend a beautiful romantic evening with your loved one. (amazing view and good food) This menu costed us (2 persons) in around 130€: Cover charge: 6€ Sparkling wine: 13€ (two glasses) Wine: 7,8€ (two glasses) Water: 6€ (a bottle) 4 course menu:48€ per person (Normally there would be a 5 or 7 course menu, but because of the vegetarian options it was changed a bit)More

This is an amazing restaurant with superb food and highly trained staff in many ways it is better than a number of Michelin star restaurants I ate at the door, wine and service was all of a very high standard and should be on your...bucket list.More

There is not much to comment, you have to experince it. Great ambient, nice view over the city, outstanding service - Gregor always explained each dish well and detailed and provided us all information about wine, which belong to dish. All 5 dishes were excellent...and you will be suprised how some combinations od food works so good together. We will be back.More
