We were so disappointed with Augustz, which we saved for last on our tour of Cukraszda's. Not only was the service terrible (we had to ask for menus, ask to order, got charged more for our takeaway items), the servers seemed bored and non-attentive. We went with a group of 9 sponsored by "Taste Hungary," who arranged a demonstration making delicious Dobos torta and Pogacsa (biscuits). "August" and one of her chefs sponsored the 3-4 hour event, inviting our participation and creating a delightful time learning to make these wonderful Hungarian treats. We sampled the foods, then enjoyed desserts and coffee in the excellent... More

We visited as part of a food tour. This allowed us to sample several different cakes. All were very tasty. My partner said the coffee was excellent. There is additional seating upstairs.

Afternoon tea April 4. 2 teas, 3 cakes, Ft 3100 i.e. 9.9 euros, $10.6. Though situated on a very busy street this is an island of calm. The art déco rooms are very pleasant and the chairs are comfortable. The teas are served in proper teapots with plenty of boiling water (a rare thing nowadays), a clever little lemon press... More

Two of the best desserts I ever had. They were simple but masterfully crafted perfections. My wife and I had the Auguszt Cream and Esterhazy slices. Both of these were pretty much as good as these desserts get. And the coffee was by the numbers good. I orders my favorites coffee with whipped crème and yes they served real whip... More

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
