They say this restaurant has been open since 1827! Whether you eat in or take away, the presentations and flavors will thrill you!

Situated on Castle Hill, near the Fishermen's Bastion, this small cafe has plenty of old world charm. Great for coffee and cakes, but make sure you arrive early to grab a table... and a slice of the much heralded Dobos torta, which is delicious.

We stayed near Ruszwurm and popped in for a coffee and cake one afternoon. The place is quite small and we did have to wait a little while for a table but it was worth it. The staff were friendly and efficient and the selection of cakes was amazing. We had a slice of the dobos torte and a piece... More

Very busy but we were seated within 5 minutes. Staff are cheerful and quick! Can recommend the Dobos cake.. but they all looked amazingly good. Coffee is a little weak so if you like a strong coffee maybe go for an extra shot! It's lovely here and prices are cheap compared to what we'd pay for the same in London!

This old-world cafe has a charming atmosphere with very good coffee and an excellent selection of traditional cakes. Worth a visit.

Difficult to find, but it's actually adjacent toSt Matthias Church so we discovered. Coffee & hot chocs come luke warm & lack flavour & depth in comparison with other cafes. Their cakes & pastries in contrast are excellent, & can be purchased to take away, which we did for lighter suppers & snacks at a fraction of the price you... More

Absolutely loved this little gem of a cafe. Cakes were to die for as was my hot chocolate. Great value for money too. Only negative was the miserable staff!

Cafe Ruszwurm is one of the oldest traditional cafes in Budapest. It’s also one of the best! We have tried Dobos and Ruszwurm Cream cake. Both was very delicious and price quality ratio is very good.

The place is very busy, but I din't have to wait too long for the table. The cakes are very traditional, reminiscent of Austro-Hungarian empire. The prices are acceptable for the location and reputation. Don't forget to try the hungarian cake of the year! ; )

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
