Fantastic and imaginative food, excellent taste and beautifully presented. Somewhat of a rarity in Budapest. Couldn't fault the service either. Bravo!

The lunch menu is astonishingly good value; the dinner menu is a taste sensation. Beautifully presented, the level of formality:familiarity, attentive staff, and, most importantly, the food - it's amazing. As a couple we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Mak. We each ordered an entree, main and dessert and asked the friendly sommolier to recommend matching hungarian wines for the first two dishes. Both were good. We were delighted when little suprises came out and the staff were always lovely and explained what we were being served. Such a nice... More

Dropped in off the street to be welcomed into a beautiful contemporary bistro, where excellent service was matched by excellent food + wine. This place puts many restaurants to shame. Perfect.

Mak, which means poppy seed in Hungarian, is run by a group of enthusiastic young people, who seem genuinely excited about sharing the creative output of their chef, Janos Mizsei. He is in his mid-twenties and we enjoyed everything that was brought to the table. They also have a sommelier, which surprised me for a small restaurant. He was an... More

A truly unpretentious dining experience that also features an impeccable service, fresh seasonal dishes, and an impressive selection of Hungarian wines (with an option for tasting menu and wine pairing). What I love about this restaurant that it manage to showcase many of the classic Hungarian staples and seasonal ingredients of country, but in a innovative way- and served in... More

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
