When we asked where to find great Hungarian food and music, the Szazeves Restaurant was recommended to us. It was our favorite evening of the trip. The food was excellent and the music so lively. If we should be lucky enough to return to Budapest, we will certainly return to this restaurant. Our server, Mark, was charming and very attentive.

We happened across this place on route to a different discount voucher restaurant. We made a reservation following an evening boat trip which was beautiful. The food service was excellent and most friendly and the food was amazing. We appreciated the little aperitif given at the start. The live gypsy music was excellent and made personal with individual serenades which... More

We did a segway tour and our guide suggested we eat here for some of the best Hungarian food in the city- he was not wrong. The restaurant is small and had a charming decor. The food was amazing. I had the mutton stew and every bite was delicious. This is the oldest restaurant in Pest and it is clear... More

I ate one of the best meals ever in a restaurant all around Europe! The place is quite nice too and near the Danube.

We wanted to try traditional Hungarian food and just spotted this place when walking past being invited in by very handsome young man. I had boar stew, my friends had beef goulash and goose and all dishes were delicious. The atmosphere was fabulous, with beautiful music provided by a 5-piece group who serenaded the tables and played music requested by... More

Our hotel was just along the road so this restaurant was an obvious choice for us. We read the reviews in advance and were not disappointed. The portions were good and the food typically Hungarian, which was what we were looking for after an Italien the night before. The five piece band played all evening taking turns at each table... while just walking , we discovered this restaurant, it is the oldest in Budapest but it is lovely. There were musicans there with violins and cellos, and it was a a joy to listen as we ate. The food was excellent, and I certainly would return next trip to Budapest. Staff were very friendly.

Spending a few nights in Budapest with my husband and a friend who was keen to visit the oldest restaurant in Pest, having passed it on our way to the Christmas Market, we decided to give it a go. Usually my husband and I would avoid typical 'tourist eateries' however we were pleasantly surprised. It was not the most comfortable... More

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
