The Karpatia restaurant has been at the same location for 83 years, although a restaurant has functioned in this space since 1877. Karpatia rapidly became an elegant tradition in the Hungary between the two World Wars, and its location in one of the elegant residential neighborhoods guaranteed a steady flow of wealthy customers. Excellent food, great service and typical, good... More

The restaurant was recommended by our hotel, and we really enjoyed our evening! The food was amazing, and the hungarian wine should not be missed. Fair warning - the restaurant is VERY touristy, and if that is not your thing, it's best to choose another place to eat. There are musicians who are very talented, who are playing throughout the... My family ate here on our last night in Budapest. They were very accommodating as there were 9 of us and our older father needed to change tables because the music was too loud for him, he needs a quiet room to be able to hear our conversations. The restaurant is very beautiful. The food was what I believe is... More

This is a lovely place, very old fashioned, and quite formal. Food nice, pudding sublime. However the gypsy music was not good. I suppose this is what they think the tourists want but because I say I am from London, I do not want to hear Daisy, Daisy when I am in Budapest. I also do not want the aggressive... More

We visited here for my birthday in February. The live music was a great touch. The food was great and the service was too. The building is very pretty inside.

Superb food, superb service, superb ambience, glorious decor. You will get a warm welcome to probably one of the best restaurants in Budapest with a history going back over 100 years - all you need to do is ask about its history! If you are lucky you will choose a night when Lajos Sarkosi and his band are playing live.

Thank Tony A

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
