I've visited Koleves several times: after being brought there for a business dinner, whenever I had a guest in Budapest I told them this was the place they needed to eat at. So far, I've had no complaints. All the food is lovely and cooked fresh, but my absolute favorite is the goose leg confit with mash and steamed cabbage.... More

Non-kosher Jewish restaurant in old Jewish ghetto area. Recommended by a tour good. Really good traditional fare-- we had ghoulash, duck breast, lamb and local red wine. Still regretting that we didnt try the sour cherry chocolate cake! Warm and homey atmosphere and great prices!

We were recommended this place by our tour guide and thank goodness we were! The restaurant cooks everything fresh (no re-heating) and everything is made with local ingredients. The food is great, perfect serving size and great prices! I highly recommend! Plus you HAVE to try the hot chocolate, best one of my life!

The area is pretty touristic and hectic (at least during a Saturday night) but once you step inside the restaurant you're welcomed with a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The food and the wine are great and so are the waiters. Recommending the grilled brie and a bottle of red from Villány.

It was not bad but nothing special. We have tried matzo dumpling soup, lamb and goose and we were not impressed at all. Maybe because we had higher expectations but I don't think that we will go back...

Friendly atmosphere, moderate prices, good service. I had roasted duck breast which was really nice. The place worth another visit.

The food was tasty although the portions were a little small. Friendly atmosphere with efficient staff, despite a politely distant manner. Excellent coffee and good range of drinks.

We came without reservation. He told us to wait about 20min, but we waited less.maybe 5-10 min. It was loud and a bit cold from the door opening often. My boyfriend lived his food, was the best from all we had. My soup had too much oil. The interior is interesting and we liked it. You can totally try this... More

We ended up here by chance on new year's eve with no reservation and were lucky enough to get a table. Both of the waitresses were more than kind to us. We had a few beers, a bottle of wine, spinach and feta rolls and the smoked beef tongue. Everything was delicious. Would definitely recommend!

Staying in District VII / Jewish Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
District VII / Jewish Quarter
District VII is the very heart of Budapest and houses the city’s Jewish Quarter. Its streets are lively and colorful, its buildings narrate different histories in an assortment of architectural styles, and its cafes and bars are frequented and loved by the enthusiastic crowds. Grand and magnificent, the striking star of the district is the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world. Distinctly Moorish in style, crowned by the twin onion shaped domes, the Synagogue is the very emblem of District VII and one of the main attractions in the capital.
