Right in the very center of the old town, nice atmosphere, narrow choice but good quality and very inexpensive food and local wine by the glass. Service is not overly friendly, but quick and efficient. A good place to end a hard day of city tour.

I visited alone in September. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The man spoke great English and gave me a menu in English. I had the soup and the hekk on the first night. The food was so good that I returned on the second night and ate there again. I had the chicken which was great. Thank you Gyogygodor Borozo!

A nice restaurant in a beautiful cellar serving local hearty food in large portions and local wine by the glass. Most customers were local.

This is a symbolic place of the city. They used to keep an acceptable, average level of vine quality for several decades even in the Kádár era. What we got as Kékfrankos today was a terrible liquid which I had to replace with some local industrial beer in bottles. It’s a shame which the city cannot tolerate.

Some of the staff are extremely and unbelievably rude and one wonders how they actually do business. The waitress will roll her eyes if anything you ask is too inconvenient for her, let alone difficult. She will brush you off, ignore you, snap at you. Simply unbelievable. Just because staff are stressed, it should not be taken out on the customer. And this is when it is not busy. Dread to think what it is like when busy! Never again, that’s for sure!

Its really hard pronounce for us but this place is very nice. Prices are not so expensive and the dishes are very very tasty. No doubt you can visit that restaurant.

Mit is lehetne írni a Gyógygödörről? Ha nem voltál nézd meg mindenképp. Már tradíció. Én imádok itt / ilyen helyeken fröccsözni. És a fröccshöz tökéletes menüt kapok. Nagyon ajánlom, de feledd, ez egy borozó! Ha fine-dining-ra, extrákra vágysz menj máshova.
What can I say about Gyógygödör? If you have not been here, give it a try. This is a tradition. I personally love this place and places like this. I love to get spricer here and love the food they prepare for drinking. I really recommend this, BUT this is NOT a fine dining place!! Do not expect any fancy food, service here. This is a traditional wine cellar. If you want to get a fine-dining place go somewhere else. :-)

We ate here on the basis of previous good reviews and were very disappointed.
OK we were there on a wet, chilly Monday evening but there was no atmosphere and the food was tasteless. Both our meals were served with chips and rice ! presumably to cover up for the lack of advertised vegetables. There is no attempt to make the rather dank cellar attractive or welcoming and the wooden seating is hard and uncomfortable. It is cheap though.
There are much nicer places to eat in lovely Sopron

I was here with a big group in a room off to the side. It was very noisy and impossible to carry on a normal conversation. There was one waitress for a room of 50 people, even though the restaurant was notified in advance about our group. We waited more than one and a half hours for the food. The waitress forgot my request for a second glass of wine as well as one of the items of food that I ordered. She was also rude. I ordered a bean soup that could easily have been amazing as has been my experience with other Eastern European restaurants, but it was lukewarm and terrible. There are nice restaurants in the square where you can sit outside if the weather is nice and which certainly have better food. Maybe if you only want to drink wine and eat bread, this place is okay.

Grumpy men serving deep fried tasteless food served in a tiled clattery cellar. We sat on ugly wooden benches. Outside a beautifull square, I felt fooled by Tripadvisor to lure me in here with good reviews. Next day we ate on the square outside ar Gambrinus enjoying the beautiful square with church old houses and belltower sounds. Food much better thre too. So forget this place and go to Gambrinus or perhaps one of the other terrace restaurants on this lovely square. The host of Gambrinus was very friendly and well traveled and of gracious manners

After a big on foot sightseeing, we felt it is time for a well deserved wine treat. We found the perfect place to do it. Great local wines in an authentic cellar restaurant. If you definitely would like to leave with a big smile or a bit of a giggle, have a cherry palinka too ;)

We travelled across the border from Austria to Hungary for a day and chose this cellar restaurant for lunch. Great selection of dishes, huge servings and really delicious!
Really lovely atmosphere with red and white checked tablecloths and brick vaulted ceiling. Definitely a good choice!

We had dinner here twice during our visit. The have an English menu but I don't believe any of the staff speaks English but don't let that detour you from an authentic, local restaurant. Delicious cabbage rolls. One night we shared the chestnut puree for dessert - a childhood favourite of my mom's. So good. This was a great find!

What a nice place to have a caraf of local wine accompanied by local authentic delicious food. Englush menus ate available, though I wouldn't count on the translation. The waiters speak no English, but they're friendly enough to overcome such minor obstacles. NOTE : they do not accept credit cards, forint or euro only...
