For our dinner I was treated to the best green-lipped mussel dish I have ever had in my 3 trips to the South Island. This was a gorgeous concoction of 1kg of mussels in their shells steamed in a white wine, coconut, chili, red onion sauce served with garlic bread. Sounds simple, but was pure heaven on earth. My new... More

Best chips ever, food was well presented, cooked well, very enjoyable. Only problem was there was a crowd in and the chef is by himself so not very fast at getting food out, be prepared for a wait.

Dined in for a quick bite to eat while watching the rugby on Saturday night. Staff very friendly and food was everything you would expect from a pub meal, quick service. Good range of beers on tap.

We were in town when a rugby test match was televised. We ate here and enjoyed the game with other patrons. Fabulous evening. We had a bar meal which was well cooked and very tasty as a plain bar meal. Lovely staff.

Picked this pub to watch the rugby and enjoy a beer. Pleasantly surprised by the hotel menu but selected the seafood basket to share. Good selection of wines and beers, nice garden bar for the smokers and good old pub hospitality. Not for everyone but friendly, cosy place on a Friday night. Friendly staff and patrons.

This is pub food and simple but the service from the guys is great and the place was full with locals. We had hamburgers - me fish and hubby venison and it came with chips. Totally naughty but nice for a HUGE change but would rather they had gone a little easier on the mayo as it was overload for... More

Akaroa is set up for finer dining and one night we just wanted an easy meal. Had a really good burger and chips for tea and could not fault food, service or value for money

We walked into this restaurant bar thinking we were going to get a great lunch as there were some locals eating and drinking. Boy were we wrong! The fish and chips were greasy, miniscule in portion (usually you get two pieces of fish). They only gave us one some piece which did had more batter than fish. The batter was... More

Basic, and the language of the locals was incredibly disgusting. It was so bad that we decided not to stay for a meal. Disappointing, as the food was probably excellent.
