Once a key neighborhood and cultural center, the new owner of the building shut down the cafe. The owner has also threaten to destroy the cafe's historic murals.

I'm not vegetarian, but a vegan friend wanted to go out to dinner, so we went here. She had the fake shrimp, I had the fake fish, and the others with us had a chicken sandwich and a fish sandwich. All the food was great, especially the fake fish sandwich. I don't know what it was made with, but it... More

I have always wanted to explore the Brookland neighborhood near the Catholic University, which is not far from my hood. Checked Yelp and found this one got good review so I decided to try it out. The place it's own parking lot next to the cafe which is handy. The cafe/bar is small, it is American, Soul food with Caribbean... More

I visit this neighborhood frequently and have been here twice. I don't usually go for fried stuff, but the fries here- 3 or 4 different flavors!- are great! The veggie burger made with beet is tasty and satisfying. My companions said they enjoyed their vegetarian sandwiches. The atmosphere is very friendly- it's a small place, a few locals at the... We get takeout occassionally and have tried the sit-down service. Takeout isn't bad, but the sit down service is horrible. Both times the servers ignored us until we went to the bar, never returned to take drink orders, and was not friendly. The tables are small, wobble, and all the seats are dirty and stained. Take out is okay, sit-down... More

Stopped in here on a Monday night to share a poetic piece on the open mic with Mic Check and was pleasantly surprised by the food. The wings were amazing, my drink was tasty and the atmosphere and energy in the room was refreshing. I'd highly recommend this spot for food and fun.

Dear owner, I have visited BC on many occasions. I always enjoy my visit as well as the food and complimentary service. I recently stopped (10/26) by to have a mid day lunch to fuel up for my marathon scheduled for the next day in the morning held in DC. I was there around 2 pm and to my surprise... More

I have never tasted a vegan shrimp basket that was so good. Good strong martinis. Great fried fish. Neighborhood locals were very friendly

Wide variety of choices on the menu, from meat to vegan. I had the shrimp platter with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Coleslaw was about three bites. Sweet potato fries were very nice, as was the shrimp.
